In a robot apocalypse, I'd make capsules of cyanoacrylate and baking soda, separated into compartments. I'd fire them from a pneumatic rifle. When the capsule bursts, the cyanoacrylate would react with the baking soda and polymerize instantly, locking up the robot's joints. #ScienceBehindSciFi

#ScienceBehindSciFi: Is a singularity the same as a black hole?

Not quite! A black hole is an (indirectly) observable phenomenon. A singularity is a limit of the mathematics that predicted the black hole's existence.

Xenomorph blood behaves like an acid when in contact with metal, and like a caustic base when in contact with organic materials.

If I had to explain this as a technical writer, I'd say it's an alpha emitter. It ejects protons until it changes from an acid to a base.

How close to a black hole do you need to be to experience time dilation?

The answer depends on your starting frame of reference. Time is only relative; there is no absolute time, so this isn't a simple, static distance. ko-fi.com/post/How-clo...

I am still working on this paper about the physics references in the Desert Perpetual raid! Currently 27 pages and still not done. Shout-out to whatever writer at Bungie really, really loves physics!! 👏⚛️

You can create a pressure vacuum in a water bottle by drinking the water without allowing any air to take its place. Did you know that it's also possible to create an electromagnetic-force "vacuum" between two conductive plates?

#Destiny2 fans: Time dilation is not "woo-woo space magic." Not only is it a real concept that exists in real life, it has practical implications! It affects GPS satellites, and has to be taken into account.

Quantum entanglement isn't a medium by which to *transfer* physical characteristics!

It's a state in which characteristics are inherently correlated.

I've seen a few mentions that EoF changed the Vex from "time travel" to "timeline hopping." I'd like to point out:

- We've known the Many-Worlds Interpretation is proven in the Destiny universe since Beyond Light, and

- Divergent timelines *is* a type of time travel.

What makes an organism desirable or undesirable for use as a biological weapon?

(Original/exact question was, Why use anthrax as a biological weapon? Why not something more dangerous, like polio?)

Shout-out to whoever at @destinythegame.bungie.net @destiny2team.bungie.net @bungie.net put a minotaur named "Ohm The Resistant" in the modified version of Spire of the Watcher!! 🤣🤣🤣

For those who missed this- the ohm is the unit of measurement for electrical resistance.

If you found a chunk of antimatter big enough to see with the naked eye, and kept it stable long enough to look at it, could you actually see it?

Yes!

It would appear identical to its matter counterpart. Just don't touch it if you want to keep your specimen... and your hand! #ScienceBehindSciFi

What is entropy? Chaos? Disorder?

Entropy is how physicists describe the equalization of energy within a system.

I just got my breakfast off the stove, and it's too hot to eat. I wish entropy would do its thing faster! 🤣

Most of us have heard of quantum physics, but do you know what "quantum" means?

A quantum is the smallest unit of some kind of observable effect. For example, a photon is a quantum of light, and an electron is a quantum of electricity.

Arsenic interferes with multiple metabolic processes. In the simplest terms, it prevents individual cells from receiving the energy from the food you eat.

This has been used as an antibiotic/antiparasitic, not just a poison! See: "Salvarsan" #ScienceBehindSciFi

Radioactivity is often depicted in fiction as neon green and glowing.

In truth, ionizing ("radioactive") radiation and the light we see with our eyes are parts of the same spectrum of electromagnetic energy! We can't see ionizing radiation because the wavelengths are too short. #ScienceBehindSciFi
