Yes, and it is very hard to smooth those paths. SeamlessAccess and GetFTR have helped a lot. But, at this point, many folks have already formed opinions of how hard it is. And, in reality, it is hard.

Text Shot: We need to think seriously about a system-wide solution—something beyond piecemeal agreements. Can we create a mechanism where these "deep research" tools can intelligently and legally access the content our institutions already pay for? Maybe Crossref TDM or GetFTR/SeamlessAccess type infrastructure (but for bots!), and yes, potentially needing to pay publishers for the privilege? It might be the only way these systems truly unlock their potential.   Ultimately, while these are exciting times, I remain cautiously optimistic. We've seen promising tools come and go before. The real test will be whether these "deep research" tools can deliver on their promise of truly accelerating research without reinforcing existing inequalities, creating new legal minefields, or breaking the bank. It's up to us, as librarians and information professionals, to make sure they do. Or at least, to ask the hard questions along the way.

In the past, I've seen cross publisher systems like Crossref TDM, SeamlessAccess, GetFTR, so we probably need and equivalent of this for deep research products to get access to full-text. But currently the last two Seamless Access and GetFTR are designed for humans not bots/agents! (8)
