when i first visited capel fleet birds were plentyful 5thousand plus lapwings same number golden plover wintering ruff. lapland bunts were there if you could find them rabbits everywhere so were rough leg buzzards ,seems i was lucky to see1 skylark 50 corn bunt

There is such a strange disconnect on the left. The same people will post something attacking data centers and follow it up with a stupid AI image or video entirely generated in a data center.

Reading an essay by Gerilee Gustason about the origins of SEE1 and I really wish I could find the original SEE1 book. (what I do have is a pared-down version) This essay is really pointing out why this system was a huge trainwreck.

As a native SEE user, it was fairly easy for me to pick up ASL signs, harder to get the grammar. I feel the people who invented this had good intentions and wanted to overcome a particularly bad manual sign system (SEE1), but it just didn't quite work.

And SEE1 also came from good intentions, also invented by deaf teachers. It even introduced a few signs to ASL, including PROGRAM. But in the end, it became too convoluted and collapsed.

In the 1960s, when this was being developed, ASL linguistics was in its infancy- its rules and structure weren't as studied. So the linguists the SEE1 committee consulted just shrugged and went, "follow your gut."
