A dahlia arrangment I made for a friend, we split shipping on some Canadian made pressure socks, because we're old ladies Mix of Hungarian wax, cayenne & habanero peppers It was the hungarian wax and a habanero I gathered for another friend, her mom was from Hungary and her plants didn't surive The cayenne is for a fermented cayenne hot sauce I will be making soon A gift from my friend who I gave the peppers to, a chamomile & she made me a wildflower mix from her flowers! <3 So sweet & I'm very excited to add these to my wildflower area

Prunus serotina, Black Cherries, are native to most of the Eastern US.

To harvest: put the cherries in a blender (low) or food processor with lemon juice (1:4). Process, then strain through a fine seive or cheesecloth.
Use juice in dressings, frostings, drinks.

Crane Beach, in MA, has amazing nature trails, and a wealth of berries. American Plums (Prunus americana), Black Cherry (Prunus serotina), and Northern Bayberry line the parking lot. I hiked, picked (from the parking lot), and jumped in the cold ocean to cool off.

American Plums, ripe, surround the parking lot and boardwalk to the beach at Crane Beach. This is a close shot showing many ripe red plums and foliage of Prunus americana, taken with my feet on asphalt. A dangling branch of a Black Cherry taken from the parking lot. Clusters of berries (1-1.3cm cherries) mostly black, with a few unripe red ones hang from a small twig with a few pale green leaves. Many clusters retain a bract (leaf attached to the cluster) indicating that this P. serotina and not P. virginiana (Chokecherry). The trunk of the cherry tree stands over a dense clump of Northern Bayberry (Morella pensylvanica) in the out-of-focus background. Glorious dense, waxy-leaved Northern Bayberry (Morella pensylvanica) under a Black Cherry, taken from the parking lot at Crane Beach Three bowls containing Black Cherries, American Plums, and Northern Bayberries. This is enough of each species for me to harvest and distribute seeds. I didn't have to break the rules and step off the path to pick at all. I wouldn't have anyway, but I didn't even have to pick as I hiked. There was enough genetic diversity lining the parking lot. Btw, Black Cherry and Northern Bayberry are common species throughout the area, but American Plum, marked as introduced to the MA coast by Native Plant Trust, are only by the parking lot, competing with the invasives found throughout the park (Alder Buckthorn, Sea Pea), and the ones only found near the parking lot (Beach Rose, many others).
