New bluesky people. Use alt text. I'm not the first person to say it or the one saying it louder. We do that on this platform to make images accessible. My alt text for images is not always fancy just basic & I employ alt text bots to generate alt text, but I try. You should make this effort too.

Once SeeingAI is installed, find the photo in your library, use the Share option, then use Scan with SeeingAI. Twiddle your thumbs while it generates a description. Then try Share Text. It might work but it’s probably faster just to type a description manually.

Inzwischen kann es sogar Video, aber da bin ich noch nicht ganz begeistert, tbh. Das braucht noch ein bisserl, besonders wenn sich im Video viel tut.

I cleaned it up the superfluous text but it was actually Microsofts SeeingAI app that did the hard part. (I have the info pinned to my profile). It’s optimized for iOS right now, but last I checked the Android app is lacking features.

With my eyesight not being so good, working out who my Christmas cards are from is a challenge.
I've discovered that my clever AI app can read handwriting, as well as print. It's even managed to make sense of most of this. If you have a similar problems, I recommend SeeingAI, from Microsoft.

自分の仕事の業界では、seeingAIとかBeMyAIとか、網膜の再生医療でも期待されているiPS細胞の生産技術にAI が使われているとか、本当にAIは歓迎すべき夢の技術で、どんどん発展してほしいと思ってる。
囲碁AIについては、手合いしたらもう絶対勝てないけど、私が強くなるために文句も言わず相手してくれる道具。
絵に関しては、人間が描いた絵が見たいし自分で描きたい。

You could try SeeingAI from Microsoft it is free & I think you can copy the text of a scan, although I generally use Be My AI. You’d need to register as sight impaired with Be My Eyes to use that app.

One question I have about this comment: who better to describe an artists content than the artist themselves? I use an app called #SeeingAI to create alttext but hesitate to use it for actual art and do that manually. But I’ll never be able to accurately describe it like what the artist intended.

I did *not* say LLMs provide better image descriptions. I cited SeeingAI and Be My Eyes as tools for undescribed IRL uses.
I said LLM-generated captions could be better than craptions. I mentioned abstracts / reading-level changes, which could be summaries?

God it’s so annoying because there are some really cool machine learning tech advances, eg SeeingAI or traffic light tech trials. But we’re stuck hearing about this garbage all the time.

SeeingAI really blew my mind when it came to describing people and scenes for blind users. Super impressed (it's eerily accurate at guessing ages too)
