Vance is lying and he knows it.“Deus vult” has never been a “thing” in American Christianity. And I would know. I grew up in fundamentalist and evangelical churches, read Rush Limbaugh’s books as a kid, wanted to be Jay Sekulow when I grew up. This is extreme even in that context.
Deus vult’ began as a rallying cry for the Crusades. More recently, it’s been adopted by the far right. And we’re not even supposed to wonder/ask why it’s tattooed on the arm of the next defense secretary?

I remember growing up around religious conservatives who were obsessed with the idea that they were oppressed every day. Jay Sekulow and the HSLDA and Focus on the Family and other organizations deliberately fomented this with evangelicals. She has the SAME expression I recall them having
