Selffunding comes with lots of risk when you are competing for user acquisition costs that are more expensive due to AAA chatter taking over. Marketing needs 30~50% of total project spending, when you didn't need more than 20%, and that's without talking about organic store visibility shrinking.

When a writer chooses self publishing they cancel the vetting funnel. However, they become the publisher. This means they are 100% responsible for marketing their novel. If you scroll my feed you will find posts sharing actual numbers for how this works.
