Joan Sutherland died on this day fifteen years ago. Too many astonishing performances and recordings, really, to choose just one, but her 1965 Semiramide is simply staggering. Here's the Act II duet with Marilyn Horne.

El belcanto básicamente es darle un protagonismo 100% al canto. La música casi se vuelve secundaria (ojo, que tampoco es al 100% así), está al servicio y es un acompañamiento al canto. El canto es ligado, libre, puro, claro. El drama está al servicio de la belleza del canto y no al reves. (20)
