Today I had to make the hard decisions to cancel something due to the trains being down. Though I still managed a full and interesting day of work from home. #SeptemberStrengths #Day30

Today, despite my dodgy knee having had a major comeback yesterday, I continued to walk on each side of my commute, and don’t think I’m the worse for it. Though not feeling better either #SeptemberStrengths #Day29

Today I was doing our librarian Helpdesk drop-in & I actually got students come with my kind of enquiries. Lovely after a summer of on call & quiet before that. I like appointments, but it is a thrill to be getting on with work & have a colleague direct someone over to me #SeptemberStrengths #Day28

Today I admitted that I needed to rest to get over the annoying fresher’s flu (and to combat the fact that I’m constantly sleep deprived) and went back to bed for several hours. I felt so much better afterwards. #SeptemberStrengths #Day27

This evening I have had my work laptop on, to do some reflective writing for something with an upcoming hard deadline (ideally done ages ago!). It’s been useful - I love prompts for getting me to think. More to do tomorrow.

Over today and yesterday I have obsessively listened to the audiobook of The Traveler, by Joseph Eckert. It was brilliant. And having a brilliant audiobook has meant that I’ve done a lot more walking #SeptemberStrengths #Day25

Today positive progress was made, in multiple ways, on something that I’d begun to feel a tiny bit uncertain of. Though this has come with more questions. #SeptemberStrengths #Day24 Deliberately being vague here, as I document my life on the internet, mainly for my own future reference!

Today I had a nice random conversation and scifi fantasy books. And multiple other conversations about books actually, with students at our Library stall at welcome week.

My librarian activity isn’t usually fiction book heavy, and then occasionally it is #SeptemberStrengths #Day23

This evening I was out in central London, and felt so much at home. I loved the smell as I came out of the station onto The Strand. I loved being asked for directions, I loved seeing all the people. And of course conversation and catch up with a friend #SeptemberStrengths #Day22

Today was all about getting ready for new students. I’m not actually ready, but have made progress #SeptemberStrengths #Day21

Today we watched My Fair Lady. I know & love many of the songs from this, but probably haven’t watched it in full for 30 years.
While I still love the songs, & enjoyed watching it, the story is even more problematic than I expected. & various random areas for improvement #SeptemberStrengths #Day20

Today was a not leaving the house day. And needed. I’m so glad, after a busy week, that I didn’t make plans. Just cleaning, cooking, washing and reading filled up the day #SeptemberStrengths #Day19

Today I got talking to a stranger at the station, helping her with her route and buy a ticket. It was a nice interaction. I had to rush off to get my train though. I’ll never know whether she managed to get to the train in time #SeptemberStrengths #Day18

Yesterday I was feeling frustrated at how hard I was finding it to create sentences with different examples of paraphrasing (for an activity I’m developing). Then I switched the article I was citing from, to a completely different topic, & it all felt so much more possible #SeptemberStrengths #Day17

Today we’ve watched S1 Ep2 of Stranger Things (we started again last night). My children persuaded me we should get Netflix again & rewatch.

We’ve seen it 3 times before, but it’s interesting watching it again (for the 1st time since season 5) & noticing different things #SeptemberStrengths #Day16

Today I went to browse the books at work in an area I’d never looked at before. A topic I’ve always been vaguely interested in but never with a focus until now. After sitting flipping thru the books, I borrowed 6 of them. A wonderful part of working in an academic library! #SeptemberStrengths #Day15

Today (yesterday) I walked there and back when I could have bussed, and felt good for it. The time walking on my own listening to a podcast was bliss. Also bumped into two people and hand nice long chats #SeptemberStrengths #Day14

Today I’ve been chatting with my son about his homework (on 1920s musical theatre), a topic that I’d love. Having to enjoy the discussions, and resist the temptation to do it myself too. #SeptemberStrengths #Day13 a feeling similar to nearly every student appointments I have!
September 13, 2026 at 10:05 PM
Today I have mostly been getting on with home jobs. Washing, changing beds, shopping, cooking. Have made good progress on my e-books while doing things #SeptemberStrengths #Day12

Today (yesterday) we went for an impromptu walk in a new area, and found a useful shortcut #SeptemberStrengths #Day11

Today I was planning my first lecture of the year (which will likely be a basis for lots of other things). Much floundering as I try to work out what to keep and what to change. But I went from feeling overwhelmed to quite excited for the busy autumn term #SeptemberStrengths #Day10
September 10, 2026 at 10:45 PM
This evening I managed to get my son to try reading a book I’ve thought for ages he would like, Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh. Despite resisting telling him about the big deal thing halfway thru. It’s early days but I think he’s into it! #SeptemberStrengths #Day9 I might be ready for a reread…

Today I made myself go & ask at Boots about my weirdly swollen eye, & came away with antibiotic drops. Relieved I didn’t let the infection get worse. Hopefully my face will look a bit more symmetrical again in the next few days. & I’m enjoying doing the drops every 2 hours! #SeptemberStrengths #Day8

Today was my children’s first full day of school and college. It has been wonderful to hear all the details throughout this evening. A good day I think. #SeptemberStrengths #Day7

Yesterday I discovered a picture in a wall, completely by chance, that was hugely relevant to the whole purpose for why we were where we were. A wonderful find. #SeptemberStrengths #Day6
