#SettingCraft
A setting earns its place when it makes the scene harder.

Rain that hides footsteps. A kitchen too small for two people avoiding each other. A party too loud to say the thing.

Where does your setting push back on your characters?

A setting earns its page time when it pushes back: rain that ruins the getaway, a hallway too narrow to pass in silence. Scenery describes. Pressure shapes choices.

What is your setting making harder in this scene?

Setting isn't scenery.

If a place doesn't raise the cost, tempt a choice, or hide a threat, it's wallpaper — cut it or give it work.

Which detail in your current scene only exists because it looked pretty?

This will not stop me from reading lots of historical stuff, though. Settingcraft is just an excuse.
