After two crappy quilt kits in a row keeping me from actually sewing, today I decided to just find an jelly roll pattern that didn't require cutting background fabric and grab a jelly roll from my ridiculously large stash. It was the best thing I've done for myself in a while. #SewingRoomSaturday

Today's #SewingRoomSaturday has an MA-TV rating for curse words because I'm cutting fabric for a new project today.

This is the small and allegedly easy pieced table runner pattern that I got kitted up by the combination quilt and gun shop last month. So I'm cutting fabric and cursing.

Today's #SewingRoomSaturday was an unqualified success, yay. I started a new quilt pattern that uses 10 inch squares so it was time to look through my voluminous collection of layer cake precuts to find the perfect selection. I love the colors in this Full Bloom from Island Batik layer cake fabric.

Today for #SewingRoomSaturday I was determined to finish the goddamn June Tailor Quilt As You Go Shoppers Tote (from Hell) that I'd flung aside last fall when the unhelpful directions kept vexing me. And I nearly did! But after 4 hours I just couldn't face dealing with the damn binding. Next time.

I am happy to announce that in this very special edition of #SewingRoomSaturday, I have finally finished the June Tailor Quilt As You Go Shoppers Tote from Hell. I had started it last fall and flung aside before recently picking it up again as an older and wiser sewist. Still annoying but now done.

*Not just coffee (ground and beans) but also tea (bags and loose) and various flavored bitters

Today on #SewingRoomSaturday I am machine sewing only my third quilt binding ever and now realizing how someone could inadvertently sew through their finger. Don't worry, though. I've got this cool thing I bought for fun recently that is a goddamn champ at wangling janky binding into place.

Tried to cut the white background fabric in the cursed Bluprint quilt kit and discovered it was a different size than listed in the cutting requirements. And now I suspect that's why the previous fabric cut was a mess. It never occurred to me that any of the included fabric would be sized wrong. 😖🤷‍♀️

tfw you realize there won't be any sewing in #SewingRoomSaturday because all these big half square triangles need to get the seam allowance pressed to the dark fabric before trying them up to 9 1/2 by 9 1/2. So it's pressing today, trimming next time. 🤷‍♀️

I would have stayed in there longer but it's super sunny today and that heats up my sewing room too much by mid afternoon. I still managed to get started on my first strip pieced quilt top, yay. Gratifying to see I can still thread and run my machine after weeks away. #SewingRoomSaturday

Today's #SewingRoomSaturday picked up from the couple of hours I got to be there yesterday when I took the day off work. Then I was using the Bernina Stitch Regulator to do some free motion quilting. Today I used it with a 3rd party attachment to do rulerwork. I learned a lot on both days.
A table runner pieced with coffee and candy themed fabrics and solid red accent fabric. There are echoed chevron stitches in the outer candy fabric border and one long squiggly line stitched in the inner red border. There is an acrylic rulerwork ruler on the left and the tip of a yellow quilting glove in the upper left corner.

Today's #SewingRoomSaturday has no sewing but still crafting adjacent. I'm attaching the blank canvas tape I bought from Waste Knot Needlepoint earlier this week to the Elizabeth Crane Swartz needlepoint canvases I ordered from her site a while back. No more scratches on my old lady hands! 👍

The corner with the zipper end isn't as crisp as I'd like but the top of the zipper is spot on, unlike last time. I have lots more cheap nylon zippers and solid color fat quarters so I can keep practicing until I'm ready to sew up a nice one so this was definitely a successful #SewingRoomSaturday. 👍

In a Very Special Holiday Episode of #SewingRoomSaturday we finally have the completed pieced top for the simple table runner pattern that I got kitted up by the combination quilt shop and gun store. Considering all the fabric issues, I'm not unhappy with it.

I did get to spend some time actually sewing today on #SewingRoomSaturday. I pulled it that annoying quilt as you go bag kit from last fall and sewed up the two straps. But first I had to do lots of pressing and folding to get them all set up with the stabilizer. Thank goodness I'd already cut them.

Today's #SewingRoomSaturday was spent sewing together the binding strips I cut months ago and pressing everything for when I actually attach it to the quilted lattice table runner. My first time doing this but I watched lots of videos and had these great tools to help ensure success.

I have clearly been slacking on posting pictures for #SewingRoomSaturday so here's the most recent thing I've actually finished. It's half the pieces from an out of print Boundless Blue Belle charm pack, with backing from the same fabric collection and binding from a Kona Solids fat quarter.
A 5x4 mini quilt made from twenty 5 inch fabric squares, with various blue and yellow coordinating prints, and blue binding. The light gray thread quilting is straight line diamonds in squares within each fabric square. Back of the mini quilt is a light ecru toned gold print with chrysanthemums.

Today's #SewingRoomSaturday is once again sans sewing 😔 but instead features pool noodles and pin basting. I'm sure mistakes are being made, but this is how we learn. The fun part was having to press the heavy creases out of the backing fabric first.

What's worse than realizing you haven't ironed the binding strips? Realizing after you start ironing that you also haven't sewn them together yet either. It doesn't help that the binding is genuinely hideous. Last time I buy a kit without seeing all the fabrics. #SewingRoomSaturday
