#Sewists
I’m cranky because Joann killed Hancock, which was a proper fabric store for actual sewists, and now we don’t have *anything*

Skilled sewists with ADHD are a force to be reckoned with, like this mom who made two Halloween costumes for her kids in 24 hours: youtube.com/shorts/CwMI2...

2/ I've ragged on this before but the differences are *stark*.

The conference presenters are 95% older White women & a few White men. No POC.

They're presenting tech & software requiring a minimum $2K USD to start properly.

I meet GenZ sewists every week at thrifts who search for supplies.

I have found a haven of fun/whimsical/historical/size inclusive creators on insta! (terrible app but amazing sewists)

1/ Non-political fiber art whining from me (or maybe it is some political/cultural divide between poorer GenZ sewists and wealthier Boomer women.)

I was browsing the early ticket prices for a 3-day sewing conference next March, near me at a good venue.

All machine embroidery. Nothing by hand.

1/ Don't get me wrong: I love computerized embroidery machines. I'm saving up money to maybe buy one, because I can use it along with other fabric manipulation tricks.

But I'm getting a little tired of (usually older white female) sewists who equate machine embroidery with all of hand embroidery.

@tinkeringtailortom.bsky.social I thought of you, but other sewists might think this is a good deal, if shipping isn't ridiculous

Why sewists and not sewers? The ist makes it sound like they're violent and extremist about it.

Tonight I heard people speak lovingly & protectively of me. They didn’t know I was in the room to hear them. I’m still processing how fortunate I am to have stumbled into this group of misfits sewists just a few months ago. I’ve been searching all my life for my people & here they are. 🏠💜🪡

What the sewists must have thought at the extravagant display and after the crash of ‘29 had happened. “Hey, we’re working. Keep the designs coming,” probably.

Any sewists on Threadloop? It’s meant to be a “Ravelry for sewing,” of sorts. I set up a profile and added the shirt I finished yesterday. I’m impressed with the pattern database, which found nearly everything in my library. Interestingly though, they don’t even attempt to create a fabric database.…

don’t want to over-plan & have too much going on. it’s also hand-sewing only because machine sewing is a whole different beast & not everyone has access to a machine. anyway, any other sewists or crafty people out there with ideas, hit me up. i also have to tack on a $20 fee (in addition to cost of…

Question for the sewists and frankly anyone with clothing opinions:

If you had a dress that cinched at the waist with a drawstring on the side, would you want it to be asymmetrical (tie on one side) or symmetrical (ties on both side)?

And would you want them short or long (enough to wrap around)?

any #canadian #sewists / sew-ers get an email from #simplicitypatterns today directed to Canadians?

I did, and i emailed back to ask the very specific question about whether or not the prices presented were in Canadian or US dollars.

idk about anyone else but that seems like a big oversight

I don't know how all y'all fursuit and plushie sewists do this all the time. After just one small bit of a Halloween costume, my sewing space looks like I was shearing rabbits.
Thank Dritz for fraycheck!

since a friend asked before i'm sure this is common knowledge to most sewists but some newbies might not know - skirts cut on the bias (where the fabric has stretch) need to hang before hemming since gravity will do its work and warp the fabric. this is done to prevent an uneven hem!

Hey #crafters #sewists #fiberartist #artist and creatives:
Anyone make those microwavable heating pads? What is the best filling? I've seen rice, buckwheat groats, corn, etc. Anyone have success with a particular filling?

Ha! I think some of the horses may have a non-standard amount of legs… It’s so funny to see the bits where the sewists had clearly lost interest and started doing bigger, sloppier stitches.
