It feels that the early Winter, snow-still-fresh blue tint to much of the film is in the quality of light and setting, not some filter slapped over the lens. This is *really* restrained compared to the action movie counterparts c. 1998-2004. Fights fall prey to shakycam, but it is executed well.

The best revision of the Zombie Apocalypse horror genre so far. Shakycam action sequences actually work to great effect. The pandemic aftermath plot is compelling. The fast zombies are TERRIFYING.

Fake shakycam and everything

Yeah IIRC they cool it on the shakycam in the second movie, and the budget for CG is much better.

#4. [REC] (2007). Been meaning to watch this for ages and it lived up to the hype. Lean and legitimately scary. Although anyone who has a hard time with shakycam may want to steer their stomachs clear.

okay im watching the future of marathon video and i am super into all of this but also why is it all filmed with shakycam
September 24, 2026 at 6:30 PM
the most questionable thing about it that i can't stop thinking about is that they filmed it in office-style shakycam so whenever the rich people would be talking and you'd get a reaction cut to the king i couldn't take it seriously

Another “Welcome to Eureka Springs” drop … now with more shakycam. #eurekasprings

Too much shakycam in the big scene, but this is another great episode.

Lots of writing this week, starting with my review of this cringe-and-nausea-inducing, shakycam, "it's just like now!!" take on the Peasants' Revolt:

if you just imagine the Monty Python bit with the peasants filmed with Bourne-like shakycam, you get the gist of The Uprising

I'd say the reason it's better received this time around is because Kane & Lynch 2 already tried the "crappy shakycam" look and tanked the "what on earth is this" hit for what came later, never mind its own cult appreciation years later youtu.be/rynGUR3_tvk

i have no doubt it will become popular because the genre has been starving for originality for a while, but the backlash is overdetermined in the same way there was eventually a backlash against found footage and shakycam in movies

I forgot how addicted to shakycam Quantum of Solace is, to the point it's almost useless as an action flick (and you sure as hell ain't putting up with this stinker for the script).

Fortunately they are NOT doing shakycam 😂

He does stuff with scale and staging that no one else working can match. The journey into Hades was--for me at least--myth made sumptuous visual flesh. And then he made Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway do Simple English Shakespeare after Matt won the gold in Olympic Shakycam Swordery.

I loved LADY (there were statistically significant walkouts so caveat emptor) but on behalf of the shakycam intolerant I would just note for the benefit of mockumentarians that actual documentaries now are always gimballed up the wazoo and nothing looks like that anymore.
