The occupational hazard dictates that one is momentarily stopped in one’s tracks by the question of Stevens’s vs. Stevenses’ (the latter being the correct plural possessive) before allowing that an apostrophe also serves to indicate omitted letters. A technicality. #ShepcatEditsEverything

I’m fairly certain the author meant “exclamation.” #ShepcatEditsEverything

Made it to page 84 before Jane Leavy’s copy editor failed her. It’s “Nuke” LaLoosh — two capital L’s and a nickname based on vocational predilection.

This is why IMDb exists, especially if you’ve never seen arguably the best baseball movie ever made (as Jane certainly has).

This is why offset periods still matter, people. For half a second I thought the hed referred to a "Weird Al" Yankovic video, and not A.I. #ShepcatEditsEverything

Your periodic reminder because I can’t be everywhere at once and no one wants to pay me anyway:

• where = location
• when = time
• in which = context

They are not interchangeable. You’re just being lazy by writing the way you speak.

As an erstwhile copy editor myself (#ShepcatEditsEverything), my issue arguably is less with Schur than with the professional editors his publisher employs, who missed something that I, an unpaid reader, caught the very first time my eyes scanned it.

Editorial rule of thumb: When it’s in quotation marks, you give the author and his team of editors the benefit of the doubt. Surely they know you *stanch* a wound, but a character in a book, an ordinary person with different obsessions, likely wouldn’t know the difference. #ShepcatEditsEverything
