I’ll be covering DDD in the future but for now I want to say that this was published in Faust as part of a push for the shindenki genre. More recently, I’ve been thinking there’s a through-line running from Shizuku to Faust in terms of radical changes developing in otaku culture, DDD included.

La cosa más va por el hecho de que Kara no Kyoukai - Tsukihime - Mahoyo - Fate/stay night son la punta de lanza de un movimiento literario japonés llamado "shindenki" que Kodansha intentó promocionar con Kinoko Nasu y Nisioisin como sus máximos exponentes.

In addition, I have to say Type-Moon is decently creative with their excuses most of the times. Like, Artoria's ccase being tied to F/SN core themes, historical Nero being a bisexual gender mess and Shuten, 童子 (infant).

Dynamis One and NC's upcoming "Shindenki"1 Magic role-playing game title 'Astrae Oratio' is remarkably pristine for what is otherwise seems to be the opening acts of a slice-of-life story about witches of Tokyo in the year 1989. For the time period and anime of the cohort it takes great inspiration from, it lacks the dirtiness of the animation cels that were hurriedly pushed through to meet deadlines and its colour choices are far brighter, more vidid, and far more beautiful. That's the first thing I noticed when we first got a look at the announcement of the game months back.

I wouldn't have known it's regarded as a mystery at all if I didn't notice it was nominated for the Mystery Writers of Japan Award in 2018.

The Monogatari Series and Bunnygirl-Senpai? There are like three different names for that, but in a pinch, “the Faust style” or shindenki—roughly “the New Fabulism,” because Japanese critics are *also* Just Like That—will do just fine.
