Wildfire isn’t erasing forests. We are.

We’ve altered climate, fuels, vegetation, and fire regimes until fires push ecosystems across ecological thresholds.

Forests become shrublands. Shrublands become annual grasslands. Diverse plant communities become near-monocultures.
How Wildfire is Erasing the Forests of the American West
"We will likely not have forests to pass onto our next generation if everything keeps burning the way it is burning."

In Namibia's coastal dunes, a majestic male Ostrich kicks up a sliver of sand in mid stride, as it makes its way to adjacent shrublands. It is breeding season, and hopefully its red legs and beaks will attract a companion.

Grasslands, shrublands, and savannahs cover nearly half of our land and are rich in life and history.

Now under threat, they need restoration, including preserving native plants, local knowledge, and sustainable practices.
