Former toll houses are quite easy to spot, usually jutting out close to the roadside, and often at junctions. This octagonal design is on the road from Bury St Edmunds to Long Melford at Sicklesmere #industrialarchaeology

Many constituents, including commuters, have raised concerns with me about the 43-mile A134 diversion at Sicklesmere.

I have taken this up with Suffolk Highways, pressing for urgent solutions to minimise disruption.

Seeing the impressive swathe of ancient oaks between Nowton Hall and Sicklesmere makes one yearn for a time lapse video of the landscape changes during their lifetime. Cowslips adorn the old hedge banks along which some are situated. #AncientOaks #Oaks #oaktree #BuryStEdmunds 4/6

#MyWalk along the ancient oak trail from Nowton Hall to Sicklesmere. Magnificent beasts, many apparently on their last legs, the hollow trunks providing a fine compost for new trees eg Cherry. Agricultural metal chucked around their bases.
