For every day this month, I'm going to post about a CPU I have in my collection...

Here is a Signetics 2650. An 8bit CPU, initially designed in 1972 but only released in 1975. The design was very closely based on the IBM 1130 minicomputer.

Clocked at 1.25Mhz, 8bit data & 15bit address busses.

If your 555 doesn’t come from the Signetics region of France, it’s just sparkling comparators. #555Life

Happy 555 Day!

Interdesign was founded by a designer who was laid off from Signetics in 1970. Hans Camenzind's design of the 555 timer IC, the company became a multimillion-dollar success, creating many impactful technology products. This is Interdesign's story.

based on a discontinued HK console... from the wiki:
"The user was expected to write the programs in Signetics 2650 assembly language on paper, hand assemble each instruction, and then enter the resulting hexadecimal machine code a byte at a time."

That's an old Signetics PDIP, they used Novolac epoxy. I don't recall it having fiberglass flakes though.

(I think you may have sanded down an identical chip to decap in 2022...)

The PLS100 is a rebadged Signetics 82S100, which is a bipolar field-programmable logic array (FPLA) that was first released in 1975. It was the first commercially successful programmable logic device. The Commodore 64 used the 82S100/PLS100 as the "PLA" chip, eliminating a ton of discreet ICs.

It’s an in-joke that refers to the configuable multivibrator integrated circuit invented by Signetics corp. in 1972.

Making designs is as much 'eye' as just illustrating a certain way.

This #opamp, µA741, was the one that defined so many opamps that came after it. It's so cool looking. And I was doing a series with variations of the Signetics logos (the #maker) I thought this one looked really cool.

A local hero! My single mother's main support for us up until Atari began to crash was working at Signetics who made chips for Atari cartridges.
This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm.

The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him.

Happy Black History Month.

Sega was able to get a good deal from Signetics on the 68K for the MD too (hence why they're in a lot of early rev MDs) so that helped a lot

I found an ad for 'Corning Electronics' in 1965. At that time, Corning Glassworks was entering the semiconductor business, and around the same period, they became the largest shareholder in the company 'Signetics.' Neat.
