Bridging theory, practice, and pressure: CNN Academy’s humanitarian health journalism simulation
This article was written for PAXsims by Zinzi Sibanda a BA(Hons) student in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and a member of the CNN Academy simulation team. The report below reflects her personal views, and not those of CNN or any other organization. Humanitarian crisis simulations are well established across the international system. United Nations agencies, NGOs, government organizations, and universities have long built exercises to replicate the pressure and complexity of real emergencies—from the  …

Practice gets a lot more useful when learners can get it wrong.

Realistic simulations give people room to make mistakes, see what happens, and try again before the stakes are real. Our latest article explores why that matters in education: skillsaige.com/blog/why-rea...
Why Realistic Practice Matters in Education | SkillSaige Blog
Skills need to be practiced. Educators do what they can in the classroom, but AI-powered practice can help them do more.

## Statistical Thermodynamics-Driven Catalyst Selectivity Optimization Through Dynamic Kernel Density Estimator Integration
**Abstract:** This paper introduces a novel framework for optimizing catalyst selectivity in complex chemical reactions by integrating statistical thermodynamics models with dynamic kernel density estimation (KDE) techniques. Current catalyst design approaches often rely on empirical methods or computationally intensive quantum chemical simulations, lacking adaptability to dynamic reaction conditions. Our approach leverages a statistically driven framework that dynamically adapts to changing reaction environments, offering a ten-fold improvement in screening efficiency and a projected 15% increase in catalyst selectivity, compared to established density functional theory (DFT) methods.

## Hyperdimensional Graph Convolutional Networks for Kinetic Monte Carlo Acceleration in Catalytic Reaction Pathway Complexity Quantification
**Abstract:** Current methods for quantifying catalytic reaction pathway complexity often rely on computationally intensive Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulations, limiting their applicability to complex systems. This paper introduces a novel approach employing Hyperdimensional Graph Convolutional Networks (HGCNs) to accelerate KMC simulations and enable more precise quantification of pathway complexity. HGCNs, leveraging high-dimensional vector representations, efficiently encode and process reaction network topologies and transition state information, drastically reducing simulation time while maintaining accuracy in kinetic rate prediction.

Firefighting Capacity Building Training for Balcad
From the 2nd to the 4th of February, the People-Centred Stabilization team facilitated a three-day intensive fire fighting training in Balcad. The training equipped first responders, district staff, and security actors with the practical skills needed to operate firefighting equipment, including the recently procured fire truck, and to respond effectively to fire emergencies. Combining theory, safety protocols, equipment operation, and hands-on simulations, the training-built confidence and readiness among participants. It addressed a critical gap which is the absence of trained personnel to manage fire emergencies, while empowering the community to prevent and respond to incidents that threaten lives, homes, and even livelihoods. By strengthening local emergency response capacity, the intervention helps restore public trust in the administration, enhances civil–military coordination, and promote community stabilization through visible, life-saving service delivery.
