A song I learned on 1/24/26 from @singingresistancetc keeps running through my head today. The words:
Courage is not the absence of fear
It's the feeling of this fear
Being afraid and standing up anyway

We were 2,000 strong today, singing to ICE agents with one message: Quit your job. Join us on the side of love and humanity. Under federal occupation, Minneapolis has been going through immense pain, rage, and grief. But when they come at us with violence, we fight back with love. We still have space in our hearts for ICE agents who are willing to walk away from the path of violence and take accountability for harm they’ve caused. We paid ICE agents a visit today to call them home. We’re inspired by Otpor!, the Serbian civil resistance movement who overthrew dictator Slobodan Milosevic in 2000. Otpor! members were regularly arrested and beaten by police, after which, they would show up to police stations and officers’ houses chanting “You may not join us today, but you can join us tomorrow”. In the final hours of their revolution, hundreds of thousands of people from across Serbia marched on Belgrade. Milosevic ordered the police and military to fire on massive crowds of protestors, and they refused. They were done being on the wrong side of history. We call on Residence Inn by @marriotthotels to immediately stop hosting ICE and enabling violence in our community! If you need a moment of hope and light right now, go watch the people of Mpls make this amazing human butterfly in Powderhorn Park. This is resistance art: one of the ways we take care of us.

Kaleidoscope of Love by artist @luttergardella at Powderhorn Park this afternoon. 1,000 neighbors gathered to create this spectacular piece, and we had joyful music from @brasssolidarity and the @singingresistancetc. This is community. This is #Minneapolis. 💜🦋💜This inspiring human-powered mosaic was documented from above by artist-managed drones, courtesy of Big Animal Productions. The unique gathering of participants and audience members offered an opportunity for neighbors from the region to connect, to heal and to persist with pride, strength and dignity as a community. The Kaleidoscope of Love documentation sent a powerful message to the rest of the nation—and the world—that Minnesotans value beauty, compassion and communal care, and reject the continuing federal atrocities that have rendered lasting harm to our communities. This celebration of compassion—a collaboration of community members led by Big Animal Productions—represents the community’s resilience and the power of public art to sustain attention on what matters most in this moment: The pursuit of justice is far from over.According to the project’s artistic director, Christopher Lutter-Gardella, “This is a love poem to our community. Minnesotans value beauty, compassion and communal care, and reject the continuing federal atrocities that have rendered lasting harm. This event is intended to honor our resilience and sustain our ability to love and protect our neighbors.”As artists, in this moment, we propose communal artmaking as an antidote to hate and the fear it engenders. Grateful to everyone who became a vibrant “brushstroke” in this massive mosaic. Let us show strength through beauty and amplify the call for an end to this madness, demanding justice for those who have been harmed, disappeared and murdered. We will persist with dignity, during this extraordinarily difficult time for our community and our nation.
