I and others in DSA have floated trying to take a crack at piecemeal single payer, starting with dental, and gotten a really positive response.
Agreeing to do universal health care via incrementalism instead of shooting for giant legislation that will never pass is the greatest advance the American left could have hoped for
Here's how we get Medicare for All done:
Make Medicare whole (no one can keep all the parts straight!)
Include vision, dental, and hearing.

When the market is efficient, and examples of cost effective processes are in place in the USA, then any gov agency can also make decisions to offer single payer to their constituents. Single payer doesn’t have to be national.
