XML sitemaps should contain all canonical urls and each url should contain an accurate lastmod date. I'm with Joost de Valk, many sites get this wrong. Back in the day I called them "dirty sitemaps". Now I just make sure clients understand what should be in those sitemaps and what should be left out

XML sitemaps should contain all canonical urls and each url should contain an accurate lastmod date. I'm with Joost de Valk, many sites get this wrong. Back in the day I called them "dirty sitemaps".
