Photo from the movie Aeon Flux of Sophie Okonedo’s character Sithandra. She had leapt into the air and was coming back down. Camera angle is from below looking up at her. Her feet have been replaced digitally with hands. Text says “She comes! She comes! The Amyrlin Feet!” Below the text is the chapter icon from The Wheel of Time books of the Flame of Tar Valon. The Flame has been replaced with a foot.

revisiting aeon flux's Sithandra *squints*
"The Caucasian, or Mediterranean man (Homo Mediterraneus), has from time immemorial been placed at the head of all the races of men, as the most highly developed and perfect. It is generally called the Caucasian race, but as, among all the varieties of the species, the Caucasian branch is the least important, we prefer the much more suitable appellation proposed by Friedrich Müller, namely, that of Mediterranese. For the most important varieties of this species, which are moreover the most eminent actors in what is called "Universal History", first rose to a flourishing condition on the shores of the Mediterranean. ... This species alone (with the exception of the Mongolian) has had an actual history; it alone has attained to that degree of civilisation which seems to raise men above the rest of nature." Haeckel divided human beings into ten races, of which the Caucasian was the highest and the primitives were doomed to extinction.[40] In his view, 'Negroes' were savages and Whites were the most civilised: for instance, he claimed that '[t]he Negro' had stronger and more freely movable toes than any other race, which, he argued, was evidence of their being less evolved, and which led him to compare them to '"four-handed" Apes'.[41] In his Ontogeny and Phylogeny Harvard paleontologist Stephen Jay Gould wrote: "[Haeckel's] evolutionary racism; his call to the German people for racial purity and unflinching devotion to a 'just' state; his belief that harsh, inexorable laws of evolution ruled human civilization and nature alike, conferring upon favored races the right to dominate others ... all contributed to the rise of Nazism."[42]

Why would you do that?
Early on, while ChatGPT was still the hot new toy, I posed it a question about Chris Hargensen in the musical adaptation of “Carrie”. It gave me this weird-ass response. No idea where it got any of this. After the weird character listing, I put forth the question “What is the Relical?”. It did not recognise the Relical in the context of the show. This is despite the whatever-it-is appearing in both “The Herodotus File” (a tie-in book) and the movie. Part two of this weird listing of Æon Flux characters. It lists characters that only appear in the movie, not the series. And yes, I’m counting “Sithandra” as a movie character. She’s not the TV show’s Scaphandra. Part 1 of a weird listing of characters for the TV version of Æon Flux. Note how it lists Una’s character as “Aeon’s sister”.

For funsies, I decided to try asking it for a character list for the TV show “Æon Flux”. I got…this.

(The alt-text provides context, not a transcript. Keep in mind I have seen both the show and the movie.)
Screenshot of a time I asked ChatGPT about characters from the classic animated series “Æon Flux”. In the screenshot it gives me the names of Æon as a member of “the rebel organization, Monica”, Trevor as the leader of “Bregna, a city-state that emerged after a global catastrophe”, and Una, who is Æon’s sister. If you haven’t seen the show: Monica is a country, there is no indication of any catastrophe, and while the show has a character named Una, she’s not related to Æon. More of the character list. Apparently, Una works for Trevor (which appears to be information gleaned from the movie). The next name to appear is “Sithandra”, who appears in “several episodes”. While there is a character with that name in the movie, she is based off a character named “Scaphandra” who appears in only one episode of the show. Now we move on to presenting two characters from the movie as characters from the show. First up is “The Monican Leader”, who is apparently “fiercely devoted to overthrowing the cause of Trevor and Bregna”. Finally, we have the character of “The Keeper”, who in the movie keeps a DNA bank for cloning (for movie reasons: it’s not even clear if the show has lore). Apparently the guy possesses a “deep understanding of the universe” and acts as a mentor of some kind. TL;DR: ChatGPT is remarkable at putting out gibberish as fact. Particularly remarkable is the bit where it invents characterisation out of whole cloth for the Keeper.
