DAY 7 - Economy Togxan isn't the only planet controlled by Wolxi: because of that, their entire interplanetary territory trades in Gathering Credits, the fiduciary currency used among the members the trading group known as the Gathering. Non-members barter with members, as GCs have no value to them. On-world, GCs are traded for national currencies, which feel more comfortable to use for groceries and real estate, and matters that are simply none of the Gathering's concern. Zbexdaq uses the Zbextin, for example. Chip-based payment cards are common: subcutaneous payment chips were attempted but never caught on, as some of the pioneers of that technology lost the limb on which the chip was installed. Cash is also used, although notes are made of a sturdy, water-proof material that won't become unusable after a good fight. Haggling is acceptable in some cases, although it's a lot more aggressive than what non-Wolxi expect. If prices are displayed as non-negotiable, don't try to strong-arm the business owner into giving you a discount. Izue's customers regularly try their hand at getting markdowns, sometimes after getting their make-over: as a token of appreciation, she generally offers them a second beauty treatment, with her teeth and nails, at no additional cost. As explained in the sexuality section, throwing difficult customers out and body-slamming them right there on the street is not bad publicity. DAY 7 - Economy The Wolxi, who are fond of exotic flavours, import meat and drinks from foreign planets, and enjoy going on trips to new and exciting locales. They have tried exporting their cultural products, such as holo-films, music and other art, without much success: alien directors usually buy the rights to the films and remake them to be more bearable to less violent species. Only their mildest sports get their broadcasting rights sold, although some other populations are weirdly interested in watching censored versions of their political debates. Wolxi technology and furniture can be a rather popular export though. Most Wolxi-controlled countries have a robust social safety net funded by various taxes, and some, including Zbexdaq, have implemented a universal basic income, which compensates for the fact that many menial tasks have been automated. For example, cleaning teams are typically a small group of people supervising cleaning bots and making sure they're not stuck in a corner. Statistically speaking, the happiest Wolxi workers are the ones who get to express their aggressive or destructive impulses in a socially accepted way, for example, those working for demolition companies. Regardless, the names of many occupations in Zbexo are etymologically related to fighting, such as doctor (disease-fighter), teacher (ignorance-fighter), cleaner (filth-fighter), cook (hunger-fighter)... you get the idea. DAY 8 - Politics The Wolxi belonging to the Gathering doesn't have much of an impact on their laws, apart from the trade agreements: each member is left with as much freedom as possible with regards to the way they govern themselves. Property is easy to claim when it's far enough from any known space-faring race's territory, too, and the Earth's sector qualifies (see further section about uncharted territories). Wolxi politics are a complex matter that reflects how the voters respect strength as well as oratorial skills. Let's talk Zbexo politics, for instance: Zbexdaq is a constitutional monarchy, with a Queen who represents the country at international events but has very little executive power. The Queen will hand over the title to one of her daughters when she feels too old to fight; not all of them are interested in getting that kind of responsibility, and consensus usually works to determine the heiress. She can be replaced by beating her in ritual combat, but few try on account of the Queen's popularity and of her daughters each getting a chance to challenge the usurper. It follows that the Head of the Cabinet, along with every member of the three legislative chambers and more local representatives, gets elected after heated debates. Said debates are presented by a moderator who also acts as a referee for the fight, and the candidates must answer her questions and argue their case while grappling with their opponents. DAY 8 - Politics To a non-Wolxi, it very much resembles an all-out wrestling match in which the contestants, ferally violent in their actions but collected in the construction of their arguments, are strangely well-dressed. After watching several consecutive evenings of the politicians debating important social topics, all adult Zbexo nationals vote for their four favourite candidates on Sleepday. The four with the most votes are kept for the second round, and another week of debating ensues, followed by a vote for two favourites per voter. Then, after another week of debating, the final vote determines which of the two remaining candidates will be chosen. The winner is then given a month to recover from the exhausting race and to regrow any missing extremities, before taking her functions. Obviously, most Wolxi get very excited come election season, with the vicarious experience given by those widely broadcast debates. Zbexdaq is not exactly secular, and various religions get involved in its government. However, the clergy tries to push laws that, while aligned with their principles, will sound fairly reasonable, even to someone who doesn't follow their goddess of choice. The threat of violent protests is often enough of an argument. In the case of the harmless, those who empathise with them have to commit all the violence needed to defend them, since they themselves are incapable of it... Thankfully allies are always quite eager to help.
