Nyctophobia can be quite common. What about getting Smartbulb(s) with Alexa so you can turn the lights on if you need to.

I think I have Seasonal Affective Disorder. Yesterday I changed the lamp smartbulb colour to yellow and put the Sunset Channel on the TV while listening to Ska. It felt better.

That's modern-day gaslighting in the Ingrid Bergman film sense. Like, if they ever remake Gaslighting, it will be called Smartbulb and it will be this very story.

Article totally ignores the fact that several smartbulb manufacturers went out of business with no continued support, so your really expensive bulb suddenly doesn't work.

I remember one time I wanted to go to bed but I couldn't because my light wouldn't turn off before it had finished updating its firmware and that was pretty much the end of me wanting to use a smartbulb eh.

dire circumstances, CES goes by and no one announces a Matter-over-Thread smartbulb.
the only Thread bulb on the market is the Nanoleaf Essentials. You know how bad that product is? I installed it in Thomas's room, it stopped being responsive, I tried to factory reset it, IT WOULDN'T FACTORY RESET.

i have a smartbulb that i can change the brightness and colour temperature on but it needs an app to power on and off, and half the time it doesnt respond

Oh dude, I've been in the smartbulb arena for a few years, and I'm totally obsessed. I have 3 in the living room and if I tell the Alexa "Fireplace," all three of them go to this flickering thing that is so awesome.

my neighbour told us once that his wifi cut out for like 24 hours which meant ALL of his google smart lightbulbs wouldn’t work. every single bulb they have is a smartbulb apparently. his family was sitting around in the dark with flashlights and candles for a full day

For some reason it doesn't get to me as much. Until my late twenties, my sleep pattern was so utterly fucked (around a 25h day) that I couldn't even tell. I now control that by blocking blue light in the evening, with tinted glasses and an elaborate smartbulb routine. Also helps clock changes for me
