Linode since 2008 for me. I just finished moving everything but one tiny smarthost to the EU, and shut down my old Linode mailserver yesterday

I'm not comfortable with MSFT, Akamai, or the US having access to my data

Du musst dir mal den Mailer header beim Empfänger ansehen. Einmal von outlook einmal von einem Anbieter im Internet. GMX hat da ein paar sperren implementiert damit nur sauber aufgesetzte systeme an GMX senden können. Spamschutz. Vielleicht musst du nur den smarthost setzen.

I had been playing with the idea of moving my smarthost to AWS and using lambda to run a local model for scoring and defanging before forwarding to the real server but I've seen so many examples of costs blowing up. I might have to give cloudflare a shot

exim4のsmarthostでプロバイダのob25b対応リレーサーバー経由メール送信が出来なくなった件、解決した

結論から言うと、/etx/exim4/passed.clientのホスト名を * にしたら送信できた（debianのexim4のドキュメントにはホスト名を * で書くような説明になってたｗ）

と言うことは、ついこないだまでは、プロバイダのリレーサーバーのSMTPで言ってくるサーバー名がメール送信のパラメータとして指定されているサーバー名と同じだったが、ここ数ヶ月の間に変えやがったと言うこと？？？くそこのｗｗｗ

I've finally gotten emails to be sent from my server to myself via exim4, a smarthost configuration, and swaks. This page worked for me on Mailjet, but Outlook is moving my emails to junk. I've said it's not junk, but it hasn't caught on yet.

Shoving email through someone's smarthost isn't free. It's relatively cheap as costs go, but extortionate considering the incremental cost to the company providing the smarthost.

So as a practical matter, if you run your own SMTP server you need to shove everything through a smarthost run by Google, AWS, Microsoft, or some other big player.

Or else accept that some large portion of people will have to search their spam folders for your email, if it gets there at all.

What about running your own stuff? Plex is a popular media application that works with your smart tv and is just like netflix. Want to run a small website? Why pay anyone! You can do that shit at home. Want to run your own mail? You need a smarthost, but your mail stays at home.

If you're self-hosting email (brave), use a smarthost relay like Amazon SES or Mailgun for outbound. Direct SMTP from residential IPs hits spam filters instantly. Your MTA handles composition, the relay handles deliverability.
