They enter the decrepit old building and Seungmin slaps halfheartedly at the defunct elevator button a few times. "Has that ever worked?" Changbin asks as they take the stairs. Seungmin shrugs. "Sometimes, actually. But very irregularly. I wouldn't set foot in that deathtrap if I were getting paid. I don't particularly want to test if it'll work twice in one day." "Twice?" "Once to get on, and once to get off," he laughs. "I like the clicky button. It's loose so it feels good to press." "So, I'll be honest," Seungmin says, bringing Changbin out of his own head. He gets that way sometimes—all caught up in his thoughts that flow a million miles a minute. "I kind of thought you were like, either a sex worker, or you hired a lot of sex workers." "What the fuck," Changbin says. "How—How did you come to that conclusion?!" "Well, that's why you looked familiar. We're neighbors. And because we're neighbors, I always hear people coming and going from your place. Like, constantly. I know now two of them are Jisung and Felix—no wonder it sounded like them—but there's… a bunch. Like four or five voices I don't recognize. I thought, I dunno. Maybe you pay for a lot of escorts. I'm not here to judge. But I'm assuming now it's because you deal with weed. Not sex." Changbin laughs, because that's all he can think to do. "Yeah, no. I'm—I'm not a hooker. Or—uh… enlisting the services of them, either." "Like I said, I'm not here to judge. Sex workers are people, too. They deserve better." "That they do," he replies, clicking furiously at the switch on the cube. "Okay, but wait. You can fucking differentiate the people who come to my apartment?!" Seungmin really is a dog, he thinks. "The walls are thin as shit. And also, I just—hear stuff. All the time. I hear your not-hookers come and go…" "My—My not-hookers," Changbin wheezes.

He's bouncing his leg as he sits on one of those stiff, metal lattice chairs—the kind that are meant to look very ~*aesthetic*~ but are in fact powder-coated, wrought-iron devilry to anyone in shorts or weighing more than thirty pounds. Changbin kind of despises that the guy's chosen outdoor seating for this reason, but he can't be too mad. The chairs are cute, and he looks perfectly in place with a small book open in front of him as he waits for Changbin. The server pops out to grab their orders, and Seungmin gets an iced Americano. Changbin wants a caramel macchiato, but he's cutting weight right now, so an Americano sounds pretty good. "Can we also get one of those really big cookie monstrosity things?" he tacks on. He saw it in the display case and he needs it. (And, yes, okay. He just passed up a macchiato because he's cutting, but he's going to get the cookie. Life's about balance. He'll split it with Seungmin—so what?) The server—Lia, her tag says—laughs. "Gotcha. Two iced Americanos and a double-decker super-brookie." She whisks away and his focus is back to the situation at hand. "Double-decker super… brookie?" Changbin says. (The fuck is that?) "I'm pretty sure it's a portmanteau of brownie and cookie, and also it is indeed a monstrosity," Seungmin says, leaning forward. Changbin gets a whiff of a nice cologne—woody and sweet, with an earthy undertone. (He smells expensive—looks expensive—but that's neither here nor there.) "Can't wait to eat the monstrosity. Will you help me finish it?"

They slide into the car, and he glances at Seungmin, who's sunk into the seat and curled up so hard that he looks like a letter of the alphabet. His phone hooks up to the little bluetooth receiver he's got plugged into the cigarette lighter, Seungmin's playlist already pulled up. Regina Spektor filters quietly over the speakers, and Bin thanks his lucky stars that he hadn't been jamming out last time he drove—he has a feeling that if the radio had been cranked all the way up like he likes it, Seungmin may have simply combusted on the spot. "You good?" Changbin asks. Seungmin snorts. "No. But like, yeah. It really shouldn't be this big of a fucking deal. Nothing has ever happened happened. It's not like she beat me." Changbin reaches over the console and lays his hand on Seungmin's leg. "She doesn't have to beat you for it to hurt." "I know," Seungmin whispers. "But if I admit that, she wins. She can't hurt me. I can't let her hurt me." There's not much Changbin has to say to that, because he gets it. As if he isn't in the same boat, in a way. He's not about to call a kettle black.
