"Just Behind You" — The Psychedelic Snarl, №303 ... After my second, longer summer vacation ended, I put my focus into making this new, wilder strain of my chemical of choice. Heads up, we're gonna be stuck in fruskier realms for a bit because I wanted to stick to what was most familiar. It'd been a bit since I painted a bum-bum so that called out the fiercest. The previous two pieces illustrate well the shift in perception I was dealing with. Things seemed to come out darker and I had to find a way to use this to my advantage. The goal here was to do the opposite of the contrast experiment I conducted with "A Bushel and a Peck." A sparkly-glowy backdrop and a darkened foreground. For the backdrop, I compensated for my new dimmy perspective by painting brighter than I thought prudent. For the foreground, we simply allowed the chemicals to do their thing. The curtains were the biggest challenge and I'm glad I put the most work into them. The experiment was a success, allowing me to evolve my craft in some truly lovely ways! That it came right after another landscape, "In the Distance Between Your Place and Mine," on my original strain of chemical-of-choice, the piece serves as an illustration of the difference a strain can make. This painting was completed during my second, longer summer vacation. During this period, I acquired a far wilder strain of my chemical of choice and it affected my ability to create the same way.
