Same here in Australia. There used to be summer snow patches on the Main Range of the Snowy mountains. Its rare nowdays. I miss the summer drifts.

I’ve read about the shrinking glaciers and snowpatches there and it breaks my heart. If Earth experiences a cooling period in the future, I wonder if they could be restored in, say, 10,000 years? Longer?

Yesterday evening it was white outside. The doorbell rang and there was traffic police asking me wether a certain car was mine. I said no and they responded "are you sure" looking up in their database, but they were at the wrong address.
Today hardly any snow

Been lucky so far this summer not too smoky. But ending, smoke filtering from W in upper flow with ridging sliding east. Views hazy on 24K hike Camp Senia trail starting 2400m in WFork Canyon up to 3300m then back. 8K in 3000m + Red Lodge Crk. Plateau is attained 👍🏽. #climate #hiking #dogs #montana
heading down into the Faerie Forest 2850m on return, harsh cold area with coarse granitic soil makes for interesting visuals. Nice Whitebark Pine there looks like a fungi 😜 now there is a happy boy. watering hole 3150m looking North, that smoke layer was brushing us. could smell it, from fires in Western MT and ID. it helps knowing where are the watering holes above 2900m are, most away from the trail. Caught this just in time, but there are others nearby. Canyon behind, with Silver Run Plateau way back. here at 3200m looking north out to the Plains 1800m or more lower. two snowpatches below, but they didn't make the effort. smoke layer rite at our level.

Only do Silver Run rd/trail hike up to that Plateau 1-2X a year. Steep/rocky ascent 1920m - 2865m in 6K 😜. Slow up and at times down have be careful. Drier only little trickle for 4K near top to stream 3000m. Tundra turning crunchy in windy areas, little smoky too. #hiking #dogs #climate #montana
steep 100m + drop here from 3000m looking NE down eventually into Wfork canyon, and out onto the plains. looking south over the lower portions of this Silver Run Plateau then Rock Crk. Canyon. Beartooth Plateau in far distance you can even see the highway way back on left. little ski area 3300m where the snowpatches are. thank goodness for that melting ice patch providing us with the little stream 12K from the start. Otter sure needed it. This trail is actually the Timberline Lake trail here, goes up behind that slope to a 3250m pass, then drops gradually back down into Westfork Canyon thru a side gulch. love this beautiful Whitebark Pine in slightly wind protected area 3000m. hundreds of years old, favorable growth area. still some lupine color left here

Got some tundra time on return Beartooth Plateau. Parked our fav. spot on highway below ski area at 3250m. still some snow for Sundance. tundra drying fast. these large barren areas by the snowpatches are larger meaning more of them are melting out completely. had to turn back around the corner up there. had we been able continue there is 3300m saddle past Zimmer Lake which would be remains of Grasshopper. if that hike were as seen on map, it would be 26K total, instead of 37. 3593m Pilot Peak way in back there not so pointy looking at it from N. This is from rough Lulu Pass Rd., only drove halfway in to Upper Lady of the Lake trailhead. Walked the rest, steep, rocky, curved, gullies. I like having certainty when I return after a hike. this big snowdrift part of which used to over-summer will be completely gone by early Sept. 3300m, the highway is on top of it!

First up, we had Eole Valence @EPS_McGill looking at how exposed boulders influence the melt of mountain snowpatches using a combo of thermal imagery, lidar, UAV photogrammetry and geophysics. Conclusion: more radiation on snow near rocks, but unclear net effect on melt pattern.

Had to run an errand. Was not surprising, but still astounding to me how people expected my limping-ass-with-cane to make way for THEM on the sidewalk, even if that meant sentencing me to the most slithery frozen-over snowpatches on the sidewalk.

There's a FB page called Snowpatches in Scotland where people monitor how much snow is left. There are a couple of patches that usually last all year but have started disappearing in the last few years.
