I literally LIVE on $1,070/month SocSec. Retired, savings gone. Live in my vehicle in the woods. Can barely afford food or gas. I'm not a hysterical doomsday type person. But I am well aware that I will very likely DIE within 1-2 months if something happens to SocSec. Sobering.

To give a sense of how much money this is: according to CBO in 2023, non-defense discretionary spending was $917B. So the cost of running the entire federal govt, aside from SocSec, Medicare, Medicaid & defense was $917B. And in six weeks DOGE lit $500B on fire.

Also, people pay into Soc Sec. Receiving SocSec is not an “entitlement” - it’s the equivalent to taking withdrawals from a 401k.

SocSec doesn't add to the debt, except for the TRILLIONS borrowed from the fund to offset tax cuts for the rich and Bush43's war of choice in Iraq. That's their ideal way to eliminate part of debt, by mooching on repaying SocSec.

Quick fix: Increase the MaxTax.
Currently, only the first $184k of *wage* income is dinged for SocSec. Employees earning that income pay about $11k into SocSec. But Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, etc. also pay only $11k. There's a fuckload of "room" to raise that threshold & increase funding.
