#Sociability
For Arc Raiders to ride the wave of human sociability all the way to the bank, while also being so contemptuous of the thing that makes us social animals in its own workflow demonstrates a lack of artistic integrity that I find impossible to ignore.

Look more trust and sociability collapse
The battered Internal Revenue Service shed thousands of enforcement employees—and it's spurring a vibe shift across the tax landscape with more taxpayers and tax-shelter promoters appearing eager to cut corners or cheat.

New paper on sheep vocal expression of emotions & sociability with A. Villain. Using a genetic line selected for reaction to social separation, we found that vocal expression of sociability prevails over emotions. Thanks to A. Boissy for the collaboration and @carlsbergfondet.dk for funding!

The arc of human sociability is long, but it bends toward backbiting and the lynch mob

As it turns out, we're having a male sociability crisis, because the more they talk to each other they more they egg each other on with MGTOW and Tate-isms :P

AI allows the results of human sociability and collective pursuit of knowledge to be appropriated as private property. That’s the killer app.

The problem is that sociability, not to mention political and social influence *also* counterintuitively correlate with phone usage. It’s why it’s a collective action problem that we need govt policy to solve.
Because you're all on your phones 24/7. Even when you go to these places you're on your phones. Everyone reading this and incessantly on Insta/Twitter/Bsky/Facebook is part of the problem.
america has a fun shortage and it's important we talk about it (decline in third spaces, etc etc)

Our new paper shows how arena size can bias sociability estimates in sticklebacks: bigger tanks = lower sociability, even after adjusting for tank size. Repeatability highest at intermediate size. #methodsmatter! Great work from @mgmci13.bsky.social! Read it here: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

It seems clear to me that the “weird” line, particularly as delivered by the Harris campaign & surrogates, some of whom are WOC or LGBTQIA+, is powerful in part because its targets are straight white men who for so have symbolized default-normal; “weird” highlights how they break w/basic sociability

The interesting Q for me is why haven't things returned. If most people want more sociability and there are no restrictions on it what it preventing it happening. Money (as Luke says) might be part of it but that doesn't stop people eating their lunch together.
I’ve written for @thespectator1828.bsky.social about people’s stories in focus groups of how they’ve turn inward and become less social since the pandemic and the risk it leaves us lonelier, more isolated less cohesive and less open to new experiences. www.spectator.co.uk/article/were...

If you want to argue that LAN parties were the pinnacle of gaming sociability that's fine but Haidt is talking about the earlier era
Haidt is trying to argue that solo consoles were more sociable than multiplayer games because *sometimes* you'd hang with your buddies and pass around the controllers, like, yeah, that was Friday night or Saturday afternoon, and how was everybody playing their Ataris every other day of the week?
It finally happened.

I've gotten old enough that an emeritus pundit like Jonathan Haidt (60 years old) can complain about kids today not playing video games in the *healthy way that he did in his youth*.

The generational moral panic cycle is truly incredible.

I guess I should probably mention that this is a joke, and I'm well aware that socialism and sociability aren't the same thing.
