SoCred revival
December 15, 2025 at 9:04 PM
If you need a shorthand for the Findlay-era BC Conservatives, they're what happens when SoCred voters are largely shut out of power for a few decades, and spend the intervening years watching Fox News.

The night Ian Ricabonni socred a touchdown on top of the ECW Arena
Give me the ball and I will score a touchdown.
But!? Who is going to dance atop the 2300 arena now!? #rohdbd

When Danielle Smith and the #corruptUCP bitch about the courts, just remember that for most of the last half-century the judges in #Alberta have been appointed by one party state Conservatives (and their Socred relatives before that). 🤷‍♂️

I'd say you can still find a very faint echo of SoCred thinking in the Western Canadian provincial right wing parties, in that while they are opposed to day-to-day government spending, they're relatively fine with government largesse going to big capital projects, especially if those are roads.

#UCP-MAGA thinks we are THIS stupid.

#UCP are a universe removed from the conservative pragmatism that rooted Alberta with the UFA, SoCred & PC govs. #UCP are ideologues only interested in shouting about problems to tell you whose to blame. They improve no lives & do harm to many. #ableg #abed
Ever tried to gaslight an entire province?

The stones that it takes to put out a statement like this today is just absolutely breathtaking.

WOW.

Idk you got the Socred unravelling, Rita Johnson/Vander Zalm debacle, Gordon Wilson ousting, Campbell stealing the BCLiberal Party, Kevin Falcon debacle with BCLib/United theres a lot but this might be No.1 #bcpoli #vanpoli #cdnpoli

Just popping in to say that multicultural was a made in Alberta idea, first pushed onto the national agenda by Socred premier Harry Strom at the 1971 constitutional conference and enshrined by Peter Lougheed in provincial law here, long before the Feds adopted it.

Not the province of BC. It was the BCFerry Corp its self. The BC govt, BCLiberals ( free enterprise coalition ie:old Socred Party) in 2003 divested govt interest of the ferries. Been a disaster ever since. #cdnpoli #bcpoli

Union organizer and NDP leader Neil Reimer once found himself on a flight with a number of SoCred cabinet ministers. He passed a note up to the pilot that said something to the effect of "if this plane is going down, please do not save it on my behalf."

Bring back the SoCred split
March 28, 2026 at 3:15 AM
Worse, he was a socred.
December 21, 2024 at 3:35 AM
This sounds like the sort of thing you’d expect to hear from a SoCred in 1930s Alberta, or maybe Ireland in the 50s or India under Nehru….
May 3, 2025 at 8:41 PM
Of course he was a SoCred
March 10, 2025 at 6:56 PM
That's a generous view. I'm more inclined to think not. I think the successors of the Socred backroom boys and girls are chomping at the bit
August 30, 2026 at 7:22 PM
the current "NDP" is more Socred than the "Liberals" who were in power before. That's how fucked up it is out here right now.
January 31, 2025 at 2:36 PM
The Conservative Liberal Alliance Party(the Clap) is back on the “Baskin Robbin’s 31 favour” BC political menu.

How many parties are now centre and Right centre in BC? I swear I saw SoCred signs in Clinton last election.
August 25, 2026 at 3:04 PM
At the pace B.C. politics is currently moving, you'll be somehow electing a SoCred government or something by the time the actual election rolls around.
September 22, 2026 at 11:10 PM
Nor Christy Clark. Having lived under her “reign” in BC, she is in no way, shape or form a Liberal. Out here, she was just a Socred in fancier shoes.
January 3, 2025 at 11:57 PM
Ahh Alberta. My grandmother joked on her dying day that she was still waiting for Socred funny money from Bibble Bill. (Wodden nickels she imagined)
October 1, 2026 at 7:19 PM
Correct. We went to SFU together and she “manned” the SoCred table at lunchtime in the AQ. She ain’t no Liberal.

Game was depressing. The Griffions socred an empty net goal so we left early.
