気になったので調べてみたら、M.U.G.E.Nというフリーの格闘ゲームエンジンがあってこれを使って色んなキャラを格ゲーのキャラにして戦わせる動画がニコニコ動画で流行、その中で「ゆっくり魔理沙」を戦わせた動画で魔理沙のボイスにフリーの合成音声読み上げソフト SofTalk の音声が使われたことから、SofTalk の声が「ゆっくり」の声という認識が動画作成者の間に生まれ、SofTalk による実況・解説の動画で話者の顔として「ゆっくり」のイラストが使われるようになったらしい。

It looks like the only non-Garriott game that California Pacific invested in a handsome color Softalk ad for was an asteroids clone called Apple-oids. The painting makes it look much, much cooler than the name!

RG has an interesting history, having arrived in the US just as the Video Game Magazine Age was ending. It belongs with other worthies like CGW, EG, Softalk, NextGen and CG/S+.

I guess Apple Orchard went to press later than Softalk. Because as far as I know, August 1984 was the last issue published of both magazines. Here's the editorial from Apple Orchard, Aug/Sep 1984, lamenting (and incredulous at) the loss of Softalk (and of Peelings, but less surprised by that).
