It's really a fantastic story. It won't get the traction the Sokal hoax did--mostly because it raises serious societal issues and the possibility (probability) of meaningful harm to people, where as the Sokal hoax allowed a particular set of people to feel very much superior to others.

I do not think people are actually seriously calibrated for how rabidly anti-university the MAGA right is and how core that is to their policy goals. It is probably the #2 issue after immigration for them, and for some of them it’s higher.

i should mention i'm thinking about this in the context of reading a book by a bunch of regressive 'cancelled' scientists who line up to praise sokal for apparently making some sort of amazing point about postmodernism or such, but none think to ask "did anyone ever do this to us?"
