This is a macro photo of a slender beetle perched on the tip of a green grass blade, set against a softly blurred green background. Goldenrod soldier beetle on the top of Queen Anne's Lace, or wild carrot, a plant with numerous small white flowers. There is one pink flower in the middle which seems to have the beetle's attention. The beetle is mostly a dull orange with oval black spots at the end of its wings. and another black spot on its thorax.

The Soldier Beetle deserves a considerably better reputation

The wing cases are soft rather than hard, so a soldier beetle looks slightly rumpled compared with other beetles, and it flies off the flower at the first touch.
