I attempted to write Songbai in a distantly melancholic yet emotionally restrained manner, to evoke some of the regretful feelings from Chinese philosophy, the inescapable sorrow of discussing how blood soaks the soil, how violence flows down to people and land, into social memory and everyday life.

I also enjoy my chance to adapt 1e's Shokuro into 2e's Songbai; this is an unstable polity built upon lines of symmetry as well as division. I'm glad for the freedom, encouragement, as well as rigour and readiness of feedback, which Paizo's developers granted for this work; it's really a privilege!

I wanted to be able to look deeply at questions of anthropocentrism and ethnocentrism through a fantasy lens, and explore how things are often crude and imperfect, often unresolved and not clearly demarcated across histories and communities, and I'm glad I was given such a chance to create Songbai!

I *really* appreciated the social issues you put into Songbai between the kitsune and Tian-Shus in a post-Imperial Lung Wa world. It was evocative and read exactly like what I've been advocating for in Tian Xia for years. Great work! Hope to see you in more stuff in the future.
