Bought a sonicator. First thing I used it for was to clean all my piercings jewellery. Here's all the pieces I have for my PA, including the titanium bent barbell I had to pull out the dishwasher to find after I dropped them all.

Tiny scratches are normal on gold jewellery. They can be buffed out using a gold jewellery cleaning cloth.
Highly recommend not letting a jeweller clean your engagement ring if it has claws to hold the diamond. Almost wrecked my wife's ring.
Get a small sonicator bath suitable for rings instead.

Also that time I used the ultrasonicator to sonicate expensive Luminex multiplex beads. That was the only sonicator I knew. Turns out those cheap jewelry cleaners are the sonicators I needed to use. Wasted so much $

To add, over-the-counter vinegar can work. We used this in Zimbabwe and it worked wonders. If you have access to a sonicator, this can also help dislodge the crusts while submersed in acid or vinegar

This lady is a SCIENTIST IN A TV SHOW. Two scenes ago she was counting kittiwake chicks in the wild. This scene she is micropipetting fuckknowswhat and in the background is a volumetric flask of MYSTERY PINK LIQUID. What sort of SCIENCE is she doing? ALL OF THE SCIENCE? Specialisation is for wimps!

But it's a surfactant. Much higher affinity to metal surfaces than lube.

Good for cleaning greasy surfaces.

If you use it on stuff that needs lubrication you need an excess of hot water to remove. Even then it didn't always come off.

Good for surfaces. That's it.

1st round in sonicator ok tho
