Today, Jan.2, is National Science Fiction Day.
The date is in honor of Isaac Asimov's birthday.

Happy Birthday to Isaac Asimov.

Lets all recommend a science fiction book we like or feel important.
My recommendation will be the first comment.

Isaac Asimov

Book of the day.

Our Bodies Ourselves - 1973

My folks owned a bookstore.
I read everything.
Believe it or not, I read this, when it came out.
I was 12 years old.

I think it might have been important for me to have read it at that age.

A Book a Day

I was 15 when I read this.
It had only been out in paperback a short time.

This book changed me; and, changed my perspectives

Coyote Blue
by Christopher Moore
January 1, 1993
303 pages

There is technically a coyote, sometimes.

This is my favorite of all of Moore's work.
Also, my daughter has the smoking coyote image as a tat on her arm.

Free Live Free by Gene Wolfe
First Pub. 1-1-84

Gene Wolfe spans far and wide.
If you only know his work through the New Sun series, you are missing his true greatness in story telling.
This one has stuck with me, over the decades.

You are welcome.

The Outer Limits
Issue #1
Dell Comics
Published in January-March 1964

Just a fun throwback.
The original series was one of the most outstanding science fiction shows of all time.
My favorite, Soldier, written by Harlan Ellison.

Yes. It's moles
A wonderful, though sometimes brutal, book about a colony of moles

Book of the day/night

Yeah. It's a Viet Nam war story; which, I do not normally ever read.

This hits much more like dystopian horror

The very best in the genre.

Martian Time-Slip
by Philip K DIck
1964

This was the first PKD book I ever read.
It was recommended to me by my literary mentor, and friend, Lydia M, of Dangerous Visions.

It is a very good introduction to PKD.

Rachel in Love
by Pat Murphy
April 1, 1987

This was the 1987 Nebula Award winner.
Yes, it deserves this award.
Ms Murphy has this on her own site as a .99 cent story.
