til Sotdae (솟대) are a type of a sacred¹ pole from Korea with a stylized (often highly abstracted) carved bird on top that bring luck¹ and ward off evil spirits¹. They can be placed alone, or together with antropomorphic idols¹ / totems¹ called Jangseung.

Learned something
Sotdae. Kusamono: Pygmy bamboo (Pleioblastus pygmaeus) & Wild Ducks. Artwork created by Sam-Kyun Yoon. Inspired by a traditional Korean folk art called sotdae. Placing large sotdae at the entrance to a village is a very old Korean tradition still practiced today. The carved ducks atop tall wooden poles are thought to guard against calamities and disasters.

Added birds as pets. You can encounter these new companions throughout Pywel. Added the Sotdae of Bond item which allows you to gain Trust with birds. Place various types of food that birds might like on the Sotdae of Bond to feed them and gain Trust. The Sotdae of Bond can be obtained through a quest. Added 5 new types of cat pets. Improved the Abyss Heuklang so that it can become your pet. Added a function to change the names of horses and pets. Fixed an issue where cats could remain on the player's shoulder indefinitely, contrary to the intended design. However, considering that many Greymanes actually liked these cats' behavior, we have added an item that allows cats to stay on the shoulder for a longer period of time. Added an accessory slot for pets, which will allow pets to now take on a wider variety of roles. Sigil of Bonding: Equipping this item on a pet cat ensures it to stay longer on your shoulder.

Sotdae in contrast don't seem enjoy this visibility. Even the term for Sotdae isn't clear (Wiki says they are called differently in different parts of the country)

A Sot-Dae given to Spokane from our Korean Sister City Jecheon. Traditionally, in Korea, Sot-Dae are geese that serve as village guardians and messengers between villagers and the gods because the Sot-Dae can master three environments, air, land, and water. They fend off evil spirits and protect the village against natural disasters and epidemics.

What I find interseting about Sotdae is that they are kinda hinding in the shadow of more "obvious" antropomorphic Jangseung. About Jangseung you can read a lot: how they are lower gods or spirits, how they talk to each from one crossroads to another, which is why one has to be kind to them
