But neither he nor my radiation oncologist told me the main reason I would want SpaceOAR. They both said it reduces the potential for diarrhea (sorry, gross) over the course of radiation treatment, but if that was the only benefit, why risk the possible issues with getting SpaceOAR?

It's basically a gel that distances the rectum from the prostate to reduce the amount of radiation the rectum receives. The urologist who will be injecting the SpaceOAR was very forthcoming about its potential side-effects (and some are very undesirable).

I really like and trust the doctors who are treating my prostate cancer, but I think that in the interest of not scaring off patients, they sometimes neglect to disclose potential side effects.

For example, I'm pursuing for a pre-radiation treatment option called SpaceOAR.
