Five delays... FIVE..... it should've been postponed indefinitely. #SpaceShuttleChallenger
[January 27th, 1986] Dangerous crosswinds forced NASA to scrub the Challenger shuttle launch again, delaying Christa McAuliffe's debut as the first citizen in space. This was the fifth postponement, stemming from earlier mechanical delays and current weather issues at the landing site.

The reason why a lot of us did watch it live in class was because of Christa McAullife, who would've been the 1st teacher in space. It's mentioned in this clip. #GenX #SpaceShuttleChallenger

So many delays..... 🥹 #SpaceShuttleChallenger #40Years
[January 28th, 1986] The launch was delayed for 2 hours due to a hardware issue with the exterior hatch handle. Ground crews had to use a drill and hacksaw to remove a stubborn bolt.

We didn't even realize what we had just witnessed.... it took our teachers a moment to gather themselves to explain it. 🥹

40 years ago today, the #spaceshuttlechallenger broke apart shortly into its flight, killing all seven crew members. Gregory Horndeski channeled his grief over the tragedy into a series of paintings paying tribute to those lost lives. The works are on view at his Horndeski Contemporary in #SantaFe

39 years ago today we lost seven brave astronauts when the Challenger exploded. Given my generation, that day is forever emblazoned in my memory from watching live. I was only 6 years old, but I remember being so confused and then sad.
