We all want Rejoin now but there are hurdles we must navigate first. Getting of Reform is the first. Labour already laying the foundations of our eventual application of accession. We saw much of the diplomatic spadework carried out by Starmer. The next GE manifesto will where Rejoin is announced.

A Starmer initiative. During the 2024 general election campaign, Sir Keir Starmer promised to establish 80 fast-track specialist rape courts to tackle massive backlogs and support victims. Burnham is so lucky that all the spadework was done by Starmer’s government.

pessimist case: bad. (I am mostly here right now)

optimist case: folks do tend to learn pretty effectively what parts of a system actually matter for what they do, and we may see a focus on other parts of any given knowledge task when you can reliably have a technician go do the spadework

Jacked up Biden policies... destroying ag, service, construction, landscaping, restaurant and other labor markets... thank goodness the Dems are out there screaming about what's being done to working classes and small cities and towns... really doing the grassroots spadework out there.

1/2 "A particularly lively section finds the author investigating companies (“venture-capital vampires”) that firmly attest to having solved the longevity problem through non-aging biomedical health fads, like Resveratrol and blood transfusions. The author’s rigorous debunking spadework crackles...
"A universally relevant and surprisingly eye-opening probe into the human lifespan."

Kirkus reviews Saul Newman's darkly comedic journey into the science of aging, "Morbid."

Great spadework from Public Citizen, showing how deeply the public trust in lands rests in hands of private interests. Not shown on the list: members of Natl. Council on Public History who plan to loosen rvw. of hist/archaeo sites in bulldozer’s path.

SPADEWORK is the hard routine an authentic preliminary work or preparation required for a major product undertaking our goal can begin. I was taught this great new word when I was hanging out with black women cause that’s what we do all the dang time

The assumption that the 2027 Presidential election will see a second-round run-off between Marine Le Pen and the impeccably establishment Édouard Philippe is not unreasonable, but there's a lot of ideaological spadework to be done to achieve that outcome.

I'm back in Blighty - I managed to put this on Substack whilst I was away - (no, I didn't ruin the holiday, I did the spadework beforehand and set the thing to post at the usual time) I never got around to promoting it though ... It's a good read - featuring the periodic table and the sands of time

The right uses 'communism' as a pejorative. But what does communism really mean? Ben M tells us in Spadework:

"For us, communism is another name for the democratic self-organization of the vast majority. It is the people in power — directly."

A chapter we cut, then turned into an essay on the "Frontier Metaphor" for space was a favorite thing of mine we worked on: foreignpolicy.com/2024/01/21/s...

And the key was simply listening to what people were saying and realizing almost nobody was doing any spadework.
Space Isn’t the Final Frontier

I did a little bit of linguistic field research today. Some spadework, if you will.
I decided to count the number of times Ryszard said 'kurwa' or 'ja pierdolę' (both translate into English as 'fuck!' - the paucity of English swearing) in a minute.
Ladies, gentlemen, and all, it was 15.

Burnham will do as he's told by the Zionist establishment, that's why he was parachuted in once Starmer did the spadework but then became a liability.

Cost per mile is something the average consumer cares about. Sometimes. Or when it spikes. And they're not putting excessive weight on corner cases that the auto industry expended much spadework to implant in the popular imagination.

It’s just so crazy that, no matter how he fails, or transparently he steals there’s still 37–39% support for him.

And now he’s doing the spadework for stealing the midterms, because the right’s political vision is for something that resembles North Korea. Though TBH his pitch was kinda crap.

Ok.
That's a lot.

I'd suggest you itemise that, break it down into something better substantiated.

I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just that you would do well to do the spadework to forestall accusations of being one of Putin's useful idiots.

Just doing the spadework for the next GE while they're at it on the campaign trail. If the mayor has powers to financially divest from Israel in terms of council pension funds and external suppliers then they'll likely look at that too.

Political corruption stories aren’t easy to stand up. Watergate feels like it all happened really fast but that was *years* of spadework and then like 90 days of fast moving unravelling.

“A mouse?” she said. “What do you mean?”
Well, of course, if she didnt know what a mouse was, there was evidently a good deal of tedious spadework before us, and one would scarcely have known where to start.

.. country.
So now Burnham can say ‘Rejoin the EU’, ‘Waive bus fares’, ‘Cancel student debt’, etc, - things that will be very popular & bolster Burnham’s credibility- things which he would never be able to take the credit for, or even mention, if SKS hadn’t done all the spadework
