And that becomes a problem if your party leader doesn't know his own mind (Miliband), is an empty vessel (Starmer), or is a sparksnotes ideologue (Badenoch)

You don't, imv, need to communicate your intellectual pathways, but you do need to have some rhyme, reason and mental road-test to what you do

i also dont think reading the sparksnotes is reading the book btw. i think this because it isnt
we can all agree that this isnt reading right? like we can set aside the endless audiobooks discourse and agree on something here? because this isnt reading
I’m learning that the people who gamified paragraphs are having trouble reading books.

I suspect they read the sparksnotes for those ones

Aside from the fact that this guy has never read so much as a sparksnotes on any of these, much less experienced a loving touch, the list is so unsurprisingly uniform.
going to go out on a limb and imagine this guy's not actually very good at conversations

SALTBURN's emptiness is not an expression of the character's hollow Machiavellian and material obsessions, but more of Fennell's wishy washiness about locating and articulating power and (homoerotic) tension. Very SparksNotes vibes.

I think creating accessible ways to enjoy books and narratives is good. I think this particular take is informed by anti-intellectualism more than anti-ableism specifically.

Like -- abridged, "young reader" versions, SparksNotes, those are all incredibly useful and important tools. We've also-
James Joyce is gonna read this and come back from the dead so he can publish Finnegan's Wake 2 out of sheer spite.

"read one book" sure is generous when half of them only read the sparksnotes, that half is at least the less disingenuous half, the other half asked ChatGPT to summarize it for them.

i often find difficulty sharing about my ocs / providing a summary of their stories because to me, they're so tangible that it's hard to boil them down to the sparksnotes version... i'm better at expressing themes artistically (via art or writing) because that's where the emotion lies. #honeyocmb +

ive had soooo many people tell me they're making arthurian projects, someone had mordred as their main character and yet they "only knew the sparksnotes version" of the guy because they never engaged with arthurian literature

Like yeah the one thing I didn’t finish reading was Moby Dick but like I was 14 and it was too slow for me then. But like??? The plays??? You didn’t read ANY of the plays??? The power of sparksnotes

Context: I gave him the SparksNotes version re: the worst people I've ever met in nerdspaces.

Will say, after playing Rule of Rose, I am so much less impressed by Silent Hill f’s writing and narrative chops.

Masterful layered storytelling that entrusts the audience to parse the text for themselves vs bluntly bloviating at the audience the SparksNotes of its own themes. Hm.

Can someone give me the sparksnotes version of whatever happened? I am so confused.

this should be obvious, but people insist on basing their work off of nothing but wikipedia and sparksnotes 🙃
July 12, 2026 at 8:46 AM
I'm partially surprised at the number of people who managed to, evidently, not read it and somehow pass English without it in an age before SparksNotes.

"Sparksnotes ideologue" mid-thread is the modern equivalent of one of those devastating 19th century literary drive-bys that used to appear 100 pages into a thesis on economic theory.
And that becomes a problem if your party leader doesn't know his own mind (Miliband), is an empty vessel (Starmer), or is a sparksnotes ideologue (Badenoch)

Not commenting on the politics. Dude that isn't even familiar with Romeo & Juliet advocating a book ban. Wonder if this legislator took a #BobJones version of #SparksNotes for his reading requirements. #ThatShakespeareSmut 😆
📚TEXAS: “We’re not removing filth… Books like Romeo & Juliet, Lonesome Dove, Catcher in the Rye will be removed from school libraries because these definitions are overly broad.”

@jamestalarico dismantles a Republican bill like the one already doing damage in Tennessee.

thinking ab the time i went so long without updating i gave a sparksnotes summary in the beginning of the chapter so readers didn't have to reread to know what was going on LMFAO

The Old Man and the Sea. I had to Sparksnotes that shit for school. How the hell was my Jewish kid ass supposed to care about the Christian symbolism with him carrying the fish like a cross?
Name a Book you couldn't finish due to boredom.

I had to look up all the characters on sparksnotes because I couldn't tell who was a child😭😭 I really want to enjoy it because I swear I liked the other woolf I've read but I fear I'm not in the right mood
