I use SpeedFan, it tracks temps too so you know how tweaking fan speeds is effecting the computers cooling

I think the usual reason is overheating, I'd recommend installing something like SpeedFan and checking what the cause of the last shutdown was. I think windows stores that somewhere

There's a really great open source program called SpeedFan that I use and recommend, you can set curves for the fan speeds so they only rev up like that once certain components reach certain temps

Check the temp of your CPU when you run the game next time - speedfan or another app. It might be to do with whatever cooling you have (I find XIV to be very CPU intensive generally)

Faut dire ce qui est, ChatGPT est quand même bien efficace pour aider à affiner des courbes de contrôle de ventilo/pompe AIO avec Speedfan. Ce silence de bibliothèque depuis deux bonnes heures avec un CPU à peine tiède, c'est rassurant.

3DMark 2001 SE didn't get very far - first it crashed right after the loading screen before the first rendered frame, then after one second.
Can't say if it's a driver issue or thermal problem yet, let's fire up Speedfan or whatever, the BIOS doesn't have any PC health diagnostics.

another good suggestion! unfortunately though for some reason SpeedFan specifically does not work with this model of laptop, idk what's up because I've used SF with a lot of success on other machines but for some reason this laptop straight up says nah to SF lol

well, i guess the zorin os install on the inspiron 530 decided to nuke itself in the time between checking/preparing it and me recording video footage.
maybe i should've paid attention to the disk checking thing, not to mention speedfan acting up even on xp, so…

thanks for the suggestion! I haven't thought about SpeedFan since high school when I used it frequently. it's a shame that it can only report a single value to the tray as I'm looking for GPU + CPU, but this is the best option so far so I'll do some more info searching and see if its at all possible

If it’s a PC you might be able to help it somewhat by switching to Low Power mode (and/or “battery saver” mode even if it’s plugged in), and manually tell it to spin the fans on high (Speedfan might work: www.almico.com/sfdownload.php). Not sure what the equivalent is for Mac.

Just takes a small screwdriver, you can modify the fans in real time with a program like SpeedFan to identify which ones are being funny.
