I love it for its weirdness. Saw it as a kid before reading the books and it made a lasting impression.
The Dune Redux fanedit by spicediver is a particularly cool way to watch it with deleted scenes included and some other fun tweaks: www.youtube.com/watch?v=faHQ...

The spicediver cut is on Archive. It loops in the hour the studio cut for exposition and fixes all the unfinished effects work.

OH you're watching the 1984 one for the first time? The theatrical release is a clunky mess. The fan-created Spicediver edit is much better. However, the whole thing is pretty plodding and obscure. Sets and costumes are fantastic though.

The Spicediver Fan Edit does a pretty good job turning it into a 3 part miniseries.

Whereas it turns out I *am* a Dune guy, but specifically a "the 3-hour Spicediver fan edit of Lynch's Dune," which is much worse
Alright, I'm calling it. I'm just not a Dune guy.

Bummed to say that I may have to miss the 70mm screening of DUNE tonight at @filmlinc.bsky.social due to obnoxious issues out of my control (nothing to do w/ Film Linc, btw), but I'll still leave this here all the same, for absolutely no reason at all.

It is a fascinating sprawl of a book. Have you ever seen the 'Spicediver' fan edit of Dune?

The Spicediver Fan Edit is much closer to the book than the standard cut. Everyone should check it out.
