“They chose the future of their family’s newspaper and its contributions to the community over a near-term value [from] a transaction to a financial buyer.” — @jimfriedlich.bsky.social in @cascadepbsnewsroom.bsky.social on The Spokesman Review’s move to nonprofit ownership ⬇️
Spokane’s Spokesman-Review newspaper pivots to a nonprofit model
The 131-year-old publication will be donated by the Cowles family to help preserve a crucial piece of the community’s news ecosystem.

THREAD: SO many people in WA want #WaLeg to reject budget cuts & fix our tax code, like Lu Hill. In the Spokesman-Review, Lu highlights how lawmakers can be bold by pursuing progressive revenue + rejecting harmful budget cuts.

Lu Hill: Washington lawmakers can address revenue shortfall without cutting important services
I’ve written extensively about how taxes pay for the services that improve our neighborhoods – from parks to public transportation to roads and bridges. State tax dollars are also critical to help add...

From #SpokesmanReview: The country faces record flu cases due to a new strain, #SubcladeK. Though not in this year’s shot, the vaccine is still useful.

@jennifernuzzo.bsky.social notes #Flu strain mismatches happen, but vaccines still keep people out of the hospital.

More here ⤵️
What is 'Subclade K'? The new flu variant may already be in Spokane
Much of the country is facing record flu cases thanks to a new strain of the virus. And the “subclade K” variant is likely already here in Spokane.

Well, THAT’S embarrassing, #SpokesmanReview. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I can remember a time when errors like this were unheard of.

The @SpokesmanReview is turning into The Onion. Writing that when Trump claimed that protesters completely burned down the city of Minneapolis and also a large portion of Seattle he exaggerated because it wasn’t that much of Seattle. RIP Minneapolis.

🤣 today’s #SpokesmanReview front page…
April 13, 2026 at 5:06 PM
Another front-page foible from the #SpokesmanReview. At first, I thought it was just in the e-edition, but… nope. Passive voice aside, this still never should have made it to print. 🙄
March 25, 2026 at 6:09 PM
Again, biased inflammatory language in the #SpokesmanReview gives away the writer’s left-leaning opinion. Right-leaning example: “…strongest protections for women and girls in the country.” Neutral: “…strongest measures addressing the issue nationwide.”

According to the #SpokesmanReview, noted photojournalist #JacobRiis published an article in 1889 and a book in 1990…what a remarkably long and storied life he must have led! 🙄

News bias is easy to spot. The objectionable “force” instead of the more neutral “require” is an editorial choice. This @idahocapitalsun.com headline in the #SpokesmanReview should read, “ID House passes bill requiring schools and doctors to inform parents of their children’s gender identity.”

‪Found the original @miamiherald.com headline. The #SpokesmanReview changed it. Why?‬
February 23, 2026 at 11:47 PM
Okay, #SpokesmanReview ...was the intruder at #Mar-a-Lago armed or not? Your headline says "maybe" but the @miamiherald.com article that you ran today says he was. It can't be both.
