The Murray River Rd Fire continues to burn within Victoria. Today, #RFS crews are patrolling the NSW side of the river, looking for any spotfires. Tomorrow, further deteriorating conditions are forecast across NSW, with winds increasing overnight. rfs.nsw.gov.au/fnm

Hey #MAGA. I thought Ambassadors are meant to build relationships and put out spot fires not attack the Country they are in and put fuel on spotfires. No wonder America is no longer respected
If she didn’t have her son on the roof with a hose and her husband on the ground putting out spotfires their house may have gone.

Yet we’ll still be stuck with Ian McNamara -sticking with the wrong Macca. Simon Marnie was a calm voice guiding people through the fires. Had a friend who was dealing with spotfires. I was texting him questions on her behalf about updates. He was so attentive. Helpful. He’s a gem. This is so crap.

when embers are travelling far enough ahead of the fire front they're creating spotfires tens of kilometers away
there isn't enough water around to fight that, that's why we do mitigation/hazard reduction burns, and burn lines in front of the leading edge. the only way to stop it is to deprive fuel

Heli drops are more targeted & can drop a lot of water on a small area & have short turn around time.
Large Aerial Tankers are good for laying out lines of retardant but have to go back to base to refill & retardant is good for slowing but won't stop spotfires & less effective in thick bush.

The dried leaves of the reeds can burn even when the base of the plants are immersed in water (I was on spotfire lookout in a swamp once, running through ankle, knee, then waist deep water with knapsack on to put out spotfires - not recommended)
