Grâce aux données haute résolution du télescope Subaru, les astronomes ont réussi à retracer les vestiges d'une ancienne collision entre le célèbre amas de galaxies de Persée et un autre amas voisin.

Un "pont" de matière noire les relie encore, témoin d’une ancienne interaction entre eux.

Matière noire dans l'amas de Persée. La distribution de la matière noire (en bleu) est superposée sur une image prise par Hyper Sprime-Cam du télescope Subaru. Le sous-amas nouvellement détecté, situé près de la galaxie NGC 1264, se trouve à environ 1,4 million d'années-lumière à l'ouest (à droite de l'image) de la galaxie centrale de Persée. Un "pont" ou "filament" de matière noire les relie.
