#SquareGo
This is pretty par for the course with RE (and many other games) although I recall that RE5 in particular they were adamant that we shouldn’t mention the Tribesmen or their section of the game when they sent us review code at SquareGo.
Lots of good writing on RE: Requiem today, but I'm baffled by the fact that there are so many reviews that have to talk around clearly significant portions of the game. Not the authors' faults, but the constant reminders of omissions makes it feel like I'm reading editorialized press releases.

This is what folks never understand. Even back in the early 2000s on Squarego magazine, we barely scraped by hosting the site with the ad revenue & we never had cash to pay anyone.

Once when a writer was nominated for an award, I paid their flights to the ceremony in London out of my own pocket.
Running any media organization is expensive, especially when we pay freelancers industry-standard rates. We were running at a loss until our subscription drive in October, and we're looking at around $33,000 in expenses for 2025.

That is before we pay ourselves.
Yes, it is paywalled! And every time y'all point this out, we will reiterate that writers and artists deserve to be paid for their work. We are an independent publication run and owned by workers. Also A LOT OF OUR CONTENT IS FREE.

Plus, you can read single articles for $2. Including this one.

So, funny thing. A lot of folk don’t remember but I was a founder and eventual Editoor in Chief of a wee Scottish game magazine/website (we started out on ACTUAL PAPER) called SquareGo.

It’s long dead now (unless you use the wayback machine) but it ran from 2006-2015 and was a damn decent site.

I used to say this to the writers on SquareGo Magazine back in the day.
"make a blog, copy all your articles there, and a hard copy on a hard drive somewhere."
I did it myself, and since then 2 of the sites I wrote for have vanished, and another lost a load of the older pieces in a website upgrade.
