Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your CV?

Scientist: I made it in TeX and can't figure out how to remove the gap but I also don't want to get yelled at if I post a question on stackexchange, so I have instead decided to appreciate the gap, which is still there
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your résumé?

John Cage:
Interviewer: Can you explaim this gap in your résumé?

Engraver: Yes, I left that blank to facilitate page turns.

Just. Go. Read. StackExchange!
There's a certain type of person who, upon finding out my stance on generative AI, tells me about the way that THEY (or, recently, their KID) use it to, I dunno, get me to concede that THEY'RE still good people, I surely don't mean THEIR use case is unethical and I've stopped being polite about it.

The offered solutions often look like they were regurgitated StackExchange answers from 6+ years ago.
October 15, 2026 at 7:30 PM
for the full trifecta you would've needed a stackexchange post that breaks it down into bullet points why what you're trying to do is wrong, you're a bad person, and you brought shame on your entire family

i've never felt worse about myself than when I post a question on StackExchange --- they'll kill you, but it's worth it. I love those people.
October 13, 2026 at 11:48 PM
is it using "stolen code" yeah of course, but I would have just been stealing it from stackexchange myself anyway if I had tried to do it.
October 15, 2026 at 8:42 PM
I believe that all developers steal from all other developers, which is fine, because the vast majority of programmers also give their code away to the public via git and StackExchange anyway. It's not stealing if no one is wronged. It's shared technological understanding.

No, it’s that borrowing and repurposing code has been going on directly by humans the same way since before LLMs, as evidenced by sites like stackexchange where devs post code for people to help troubleshoot, and you end up using or modifying someone’s example to fix your code or change your method.

Computer programming does not have the same culture as other artforms and mediums. Its practitioners are not as widely offended by automation or "theft", because they want to automate annoyances away and have been "stealing" from each other on StackExchange for decades.

troubleshooting a problem on linux: multiple threads on stackexchange about this specific issue, each containing an explanation of the problem, a list of three commands to run, it Just Works™

4. Command line
5. Some drivers for some hardware are unavailable or very tricky to install, which leads to:
6. "I tried it, ran into a problem, and googled for the answer. I found 12 years of people on StackExchange yelling at people with similar questions."

He would absolutely never use social media - BUT if there were an eorzean equivalent to StackExchange? He's obnoxiously closing duplicate questions years after they've been answered.
#wolqotd / #wolquestion

What kind of social media would your wol / oc use if any? Maybe none at all?

Hi, I’m Sean, your agent. What am I help you with?

Oh, just enter that exact same thing on stackexchange, you might even learn a few more interesting things and actually remember it all after reading the original thread from 13 years ago (routinely updated as to stay current).

thinking abt my professor saying i'm antiquated/will be left behind in the industry for not vibecoding but icl solving problems with nothing but stackexchange and my own noggin (for 0€ a month, too) is so satisfying
October 6, 2026 at 2:14 PM
So you're using it the way we'd use libraries? A function here, a few lines of solution there, quicker than trawling stackexchange to see if someone's solved a similar problem?

You'd pretty much have to, I guess, because otherwise it would ignore the majority of your design document...

This StackExchange thread claims it tends not to run US to UK? I realise there may be some "pot-stirring" in this thread! writing.stackexchange.com/questions/42...
Do British publishers change US English spelling to British English spelling?
I have read the Red Rising trilogy as paperbacks published by Del Rey, a US publisher. (I bought these books while in the US.) Now being based in Europe, I want to starting buying the follow-up tr...

I developed that personal value reading about Mrs. Hamilton, after becoming disillusioned with the state of software and its culture in the late 2000's, with so many people just copying boilerplate from StackExchange.

"stolen code"

You guys keep trying to paste the community norms of fanartists onto software development and it's just a square peg in a round hole, dude. Before LLMs it was whole swaths of code copied and pasted wholesale off StackExchange.

my ip got banned from the stackexchange sites and i'm pretty sure they think i'm an llm scraping. no!! i'm just a developer who is bad at programming!!
Yet again, the Game UI Database is being scraped to the point that it's getting knocked offline. Even Cloudflare's "I'm under attack" mode isn't working.
I just wanted to create a resource for real designers. I'm getting so fucking sick of this.

go fuck yourself stackexchange

i literally have not touched this shitass website. the fuck are they blocking residential IPs for
October 4, 2026 at 2:17 AM
irony is this just makes stackexchange obsolete faster. i won't be able to ever use or update it as a human anymore. i wrote a lot of well-rated python answers on stack overflow over the last 15 years.
October 4, 2026 at 9:32 PM
has anyone noticed websites blocking their home IP?

not sure if it's a mistake, or if agents are triggering blocks. i certainly don't scrape or go overboard with queries but i wouldn't be surprised if coding agents ocassionally try to look stuff up.

stackexchange has a current IP block on me.
